A star of one of the Yellowstone spin-off series joins Sydney Sweeney in an upcoming steamy thriller based on a bestselling novel full of unexpected twists.
Sweeney, one of the most sought-after names in Hollywood, is set to star in The Housemaid, an adaptation of the 2022 novel by Freida McFadden.
She will share the screen with Amanda Seyfried, renowned for her roles in Mamma Mia, Mean Girls and the recent TV series Long Bright River.
The impressive cast also includes Brandon Sklenar from the Yellowstone spin-off 1923 and It Ends With Us, as well as Italian actor Michele Morrone, known for his role in Another Simple Favor.
The film is directed by Paul Feig, who previously brought us Bridesmaids, the 2016 Ghostbusters and Prime Video’s Jackpot!
However, this project promises to be a departure from Feig’s comedic roots. According to the synopsis, the plot follows Millie (Sweeney), a young woman down on her luck who is relieved to start anew as a housemaid for wealthy couple Nina (Seyfried) and Andrew (Sklenar).
However, she soon discovers that the family’s secrets are far more perilous than her own, reports the Mirror.
The studio behind the film has now released a series of new images, offering a sneak peek at what moviegoers can anticipate when the film hits cinemas.
One image shows Seyfried’s character seemingly looming over Sweeney’s shoulder, visible only in the mirror as she cleans the bathroom.
Another intriguing shot features her mysteriously holding up a key, which appears to pay homage to the original book’s cover art.
As with numerous film adaptations, certain alterations from the original source material are expected to occur.
However, for readers who cherished the novel, the movie’s director and cast have already addressed any potential worries.
One Goodreads review celebrated the narrative, highlighting its abundance of « so many twists ».
« So many twists, turns and surprises! » they wrote. « It’s written so well that you are completely bought into the story and then BANG shock after shock! It’s also got a brief bit of sauciness for those who like a guilty pleasure! I loved everything about this book and will be getting the sequel for sure! »
Director Feig has referenced this element whilst commending his lead actresses’ portrayals.
He said: « They (Sweeney and Seyfried) both slipped into these challenging roles effortlessly and took full ownership of them. We couldn’t have had a better time together making this movie. The Housemaid is pure entertainment – a sexy and surprising rollercoaster ride of a movie that will keep audiences on the edge of their seats. »
Seyfried added: « The film captures everything fans loved about the book – the secrets, the tension and the twists. We can’t wait for audiences to immerse themselves in the experience. »
The Housemaid is in cinemas from December 26.
