Woman cries every week over baby’s name – but it’s too late to change it

A mum who says she often cries over her baby daughter’s name is considering a change – but she fears bad reaction from her family.

While still in the hospital after a « pretty traumatic birth », she agreed to name her baby girl Brielle, despite initial uncertainty.

She hoped she would grow to love the name but, 18 months later, still becomes emotional about it every week.

In a post on Reddit, she revealed: « I have literally cried once a week over my daughter’s name, Brielle, since she was born. I don’t think it suits her at all. It was a huge step away from my style, which is more traditional and classic. When people call her ‘Bri’ I cringe.

« Long story short, we had a pretty traumatic birth experience and my husband was unfortunately not a great listener in the hospital when I voiced my hesitation of the name upon meeting her. I have regretted it ever since. We fight about this weekly and it’s gotten to the fork in the road. »

Another added: « Does she know her name is Brielle? Does she respond to it? Do you like the nickname of Elle, Ellie, or Ella? »

Someone else mentioned: « It’s entirely up to you, but might be awkward if she already responds to Brielle. I think it’s a pretty name personally, but my opinion, or anyone else’s, doesn’t really matter.

« Tell people to call her Brielle and not shorten it if you don’t like Bri..I also hate it when people shorten names without asking. »

And another person suggested: « She’s not a puppy who’s being rehomed. She’s a person who identifies with a name. Try Elle, Ellie or Bee. »
