A new trailer has just been released for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which will revisit the world of Panem 24 years before the events of The Hunger Games.
The film opens on the morning of the reaping of the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.
Based on the 2025 novel by Suzanne Collins, the latest film also serves as a sequel to The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
The film is scheduled to be released in the US and Canada on November 20, 2026.
It stars some huge names including Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Ralph Fiennes as President Coriolanus Snow, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket and Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, the host of the Hunger Games.
The trailer begins with the reaping of District 12 – an annual event where two tributes, one male and one female, are chosen for the Hunger Games.
However, there is a twist as the new film teases « twice the number of tributes, twice the glory ».
An eerie countdown ensues as some of the key players are introduced and the 50th Hunger Games gets off to a brutal start.
The trailer teases: « Next year, a new era of the games begins. »
The story is set in Panem 24 years before Katniss’ (Jennifer Lawrence) saga, when a young Haymitch Abernathy (Joseph Zada) participates.
The trailer was posted on the franchise’s official X account and fans flocked to the comments to share their thoughts.
