Skincare brand loved by Sienna Miller launch barrier-boosting serum

Actress Sienna Miller has learned a thing or two from her daughter when it comes to skincare trends. In last year’s Inside my beauty bag video with Harper’s Bazaar, she shared her top skincare picks which included a bronzing serum from K-beauty brand Glow Recipe, stating that her 11-year-old ‘knows more about skincare and makeup than anybody’.

While the blonde beauty listened to her daughter’s advice and has used Glow Recipe’s Tinted Drops (from £18, Sephora) for a bronzed glow, the beauty brand recently launched a new product that’s considered a cruelty-free alternative to the viral snail mucin serum. It’s the Glow Recipe Prickly Pear Peptide Hydrating Vegan Mucin Serum, available at Sephora for £28.

Glow Recipe founder Sarah Lee debunked the myth about harvesting snail mucin and said: « Unfortunately there are no safe methods to harvest the mucin without harming the snails – it’s either electrical stimulation, spray them with chemicals like acid, or physically jab them. We have found a cruelty-free way that delivers the same, and that’s cactus. »

Prickly pear cactus reportedly stores moisture, heals damage and is packed with minerals, electrolytes, amino acids, fatty acids and more. It is also said to contribute in building a resilient and glowing skin barrier. Clinical studies show that after four weeks of using the Prickly Pear Peptide Hydrating Vegan Mucin Serum, 94% of testers showed a highly significant clinical improvement in skin density, and an improvement in reducing bumpiness and smoothing skin.

The serum is packed wtih 81% Prickly Pear Cactus extract, 3% bio-active peptides and ecotoin to support collagen production, and restore healthy skin.

Other than Glow Recipe, Youth to the People’s Triple Peptide + Cactus Oasis Serum, £58, also  boasts hydrating, plumping and firming benefits thanks to an infusion of moisture-multiplying minerals, peptides and nutrients.

Superdrug also launched a huge Korean beauty skincare online, fans can try TirTir’s Ceramic Milk Ampoule (£38), which is also vegan-friendly with formula consists of soybean, coconut, almond, oat and rice extracts for an illuminated look that lasts over time.

The Glow Recipe serum is highly rated by Sephora shoppers, and one said: « This serum is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and doesn’t feel sticky and tacky like most snail mucin products I’ve tried. The packaging is sturdy and I think it’s worth the price point. My issue is the scent. The cactus scent is overwhelming to me. »

Another shared: « Even has a slight smell of what smells like cactus to me. It is very hydrating and thick and perfect for my dry aging skin. Did I mention it is stunningly beautiful. »

But some shoppers found the smell ‘too strong’ as one called the cactus scent ‘overwhelming’. A second added: « If you’re not sensitive to funky smells, I’d recommend. »

One customer defended the smell: « I’ve seen some other reviewers complain about the smell of the serum. That green, vegetable-y kinda smell is the prickly pear, 100%. I live where it grows like weeds on the side of the road, and I’ll happily eat anything made with the fruit. That smell is your sign that this product is legit. Aloe is so overrated, so I’m really happy Glow Recipe made this serum. »
