With the sun blazing and heat rising, it’s safe to say that summer has well and truly arrived. However, as Brits flock outdoors to make the most of days spent in gardens, parks, or by the beach, they’re likely to encounter some unwelcome visitors – including the dreaded wasps.
Wasps, often compared to bees or flies, are well-known for their readiness to sting – an idea that sends many into sheer panic at the mere sight of them. Getting stung by a wasp can not only be painful, provoking itching, swelling, and redness, but for the less fortunate, it may trigger a severe allergic reaction.
Making matters worse, wasps can deliver multiple stings unlike their one-hit counterparts, bees.
However, one woman named Kendra Blalock comes to the rescue as she took to social media to share her simple hack to make sure that wasps stay away from you. And it doesn’t include any chemicals or other products.
In her video which has been viewed over 8.4 million times on TikTok, Kendra is seen filming as she’s sat in a chair on her patio when as wasp suddenly flew over to disturb her peace.
However, instead of panic like most people would, she wrote on the video: « Ok so I was just recently told that if you snap your fingers when a wasp is near, it will make them go away!!! »
She went on to say: « I’ve tried this several times now and it works for me!!! Have y’all tried this? Is this a real thing or is it just a coincidence for me?? »
In the clip, Kendra is seen snapping her fingers several times in the direction of the wasp, moving her hand as the wasp tries to fly away from her. Within just a few seconds, the wasp flies away from the her, and she remains on her patio.
« It can’t just be coincidence right?! » she wrote iun the caption of her video.
People quickly took to the comment section of the video. And while viewers seemed impressed by the trick, few appeared to be willing to give it a try themselves.
« Have you tried running and screaming like a normal person, » one user jokingly asked. Meanwhile, another said: « Well they don’t go away when I scream so how does this work. »
« Not me snapping and crying as they continue to buzz near my head, » a thid person wrote.
Another viewer also shared how their previous trauma around wasps was stopping them from trying the hack as they explained: « Not gonna live, after having been attacked by a whole nest of them as a kid, wasps terrify me and I would rather hide inside than try this. »
