This 1991 American sci-fi is an all-time classic for film fans, and they’re just in luck as it’s about to play on ITV, for the ultimate Saturday night in.

Directed by James Cameron and starring Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, Terminator 2: Judgement Day is the second instalment in the iconic Terminator series.

Acting as the sequel to the 1984 original Terminator, this film takes on a whole new challenge when the futuristic artificial intelligence Skynet sends a more advanced and powerful Terminator (T-1000) back in time.

As the killing machine finds himself in 1995, his duty is to kill the future leader of the human resistance, John Connor, as a child, before he becomes the future leader of the resistance. Although, another Terminator (T-800) has also been sent back through time, except their mission is to protect both John and his mother, Sarah Connor.

The two robotic forces battle it out, with hopes to change the future in entirely different ways. As John and his mother go on the run with the T-800, the child begins to form a special bond with the robot and teaches him about the importance of humanity.

A Rotten Tomatoes review says the film is « the greatest movie masterpiece of all time ». They continued to say that it is probably « the best movie I have ever seen! » and is definitely « worth watching ».

Another review says: « Judgement Day elevates the franchise with groundbreaking visual effects and breathtaking action. Arnold delivers one of his most iconic performances, while Linda Hamilton’s transformation into a fierce and determined Sarah Connor is unforgettable. »

Just as impressed by the sequel, a viewer wrote: « By now it’s well known that a sequel to a great film is hard to make as great, but T2 is one of those films that lives up to and possibly even surpasses the first. There is not a single complaint I can think of for this film. It is perfect in all aspects of filmmaking. »

Judgement Day was a huge commercial success, grossing around 520 million dollars at the box office, becoming not only the highest-grossing film of that year but also the third-highest-grossing film of its time. Along with its success with fans, it went on to win numerous awards, including Oscars, for its visual effects, sound mixing, editing and more.

30 years on from its release, and the film continues to gain new fans and remind original viewers of the charm the franchise holds. One person shared: « It’s been decades, and it’s still my favourite movie. One of the best of what cinema has to offer. »

The only downside it seems to watching Terminator 2 is that it’s pretty hard to get your hands on when it comes to streaming services.
