Sainsbury’s shoppers can benefit from savings of up to £168 per year using a little-known perk with a refund voucher “guaranteed”. The supermarket chain says shoppers who buy a Delivery Pass subscription can make significant savings as it allows them to avoid delivery charges by paying a one-off fee instead.

There are two types of passes you can purchase – an anytime pass, which offers one free delivery per day, on any day of the week, or a midweek pass, which gives you one free delivery per day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There’s an option to get a monthly, six-month or 12-month pass, priced at £7.50, £43 and £80 respectively, and there is a minimum spend of £40 per order.

According to Sainsbury’s, shoppers can save up to £168 per year with a delivery pass based on one weekly delivery costing £4. However, purchasing a pass has another added benefit: during the subscription period, shoppers will accumulate savings from delivery charges they would have otherwise paid.

So when your pass is due for renewal, Sainsbury’s will automatically calculate your total savings, and if these are less than the cost of your pass, the supermarket will automatically send you a voucher for the difference, which means you won’t be left out of pocket.

Explaining the Delivery Pass Guarantee, Sainsbury’s said: “We guarantee you won’t be out of pocket. If you don’t save enough to cover the cost of your Delivery Pass, we’ll send you a voucher for the difference.”

The supermarket added: “When your Pass expires, we’ll add up the cost of the slots you used while you had a Delivery Pass.

“If the normal delivery charges for the slots you chose were less than the cost of your Delivery Pass, we’ll give you a coupon for the difference. You can use this on an online grocery order.”

Shoppers can place as many orders as they like, but will only receive one Delivery Pass per day. Any additional orders on the same day will be charged at the advertised standard delivery rate.

Your subscription will automatically renew on a one, six or 12 month basis, depending on which pass you buy, but you can stop the renewal by selecting ‘Do not renew my Delivery Pass’ in your account, and it will remain active for any time you have left on it.

Shoppers can also earn Nectar points on their Delivery Pass if you register your card so it’s another way to rack up some valuable points.

Sainsbury’s explains: « You will earn Nectar points on your Delivery Pass purchase as long as your Nectar card details are up to date and registered at My Account. Our colleagues will earn staff discount on their Delivery Pass purchase as long as the staff discount card is up to date.

« When your Pass runs out, it will renew automatically. We’ll send you an email 28 days before it runs out to remind you. If you have a Monthly Pass, we won’t remind you. It will keep on automatically renewing every month. »
