As of Friday, January 23 there are 121 postcodes that are experiencing delays across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Royal Mail say their air network is currently operating at schedule, yet they had a delay to their road network. A number of mail was misrouted and arrived at their Scottish hub in error rather than Northern Ireland.
Royal Mail has warned people their mail now arrive later than expected. Birmingham Mail Centre has seen not all mail processed and dispatched according to schedule.
The company said: « We aim to deliver to all addresses we have mail for, six days a week. In a small number of local offices, this may temporarily not be possible due to local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors.
« In those cases, we will rotate deliveries to minimise the delay to individual customers. We also provide targeted support to those offices to address their challenges and restore our service to the high standard our customers would normally receive. »
Royal Mail added: « We’re sorry for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. » They regularly update their website with the latest affected areas, which details the depot and postcodes impacted.
Currently, 38 depots are affected by delays which has a knock-on effect for postcodes in the local area.
