2026 is already looking like a tough year for the high street. Over the past few weeks, several retailers have announced or have already carried out closures, with hundreds of stores and jobs affected.
Charity shops, fashion retailers and beauty stores have all been hit with the bad news. Some of these closures will be taking place over the coming weeks, while other stores have been forced to pull the shutters down for good already this January. Here is a full roundup of all the store closures that have happened or been announced recently.

River Island
A total of 27 River Island stores are set to close by the end of this month, after it was announced last year that a restructuring plan would be taking place. Bosses have blamed the move from shoppers on the high street to online as one of the reasons for the current situation.
