A savvy shopper has revealed the prime time to visit Tesco for the best bargains.

TikTok user baby_doll_2020 said she typically heads to the supermarket at or after 8pm, meaning she can make the most of the supermarket’s reduced items. While many people schedule their weekly grocery run during the day, shopping in the evening could be the key to significant savings.

In a video shared on the platform, the user showcases the impressive haul she managed to snag during an evening Tesco trip. She also sought validation from her followers, hoping she’s not the only one who makes these ‘sneaky’ visits to the supermarket’s discounted food section.

She said: « Right girls, please tell me I am not the only one that does this. So sometimes it gets to like 8pm and I think I’m gonna sneak out and I’m going to run to Tesco’s and check out the reduced food section. »

She humorously noted that while « some people sneak out to have affairs », food enthusiasts like herself « sneak out to check the reduced aisle at Tesco’s. » The thrifty shopper then proceeded to display the discounted food items she scored that night, including a bramley apple pie marked down from £1.90 to just 48p – a find she was particularly pleased with as she had been craving apple pie earlier in the day.

Next, she snapped up a pack of two Tesco S’mores Loaded Brownies for a mere 70p, down from £2.80 – a saving of four times the original price. The indulgent brownies are described as being « topped with digestive biscuits, marshmallows, Belgian milk chocolate and a drizzle of white chocolate », making them a real treat.

She also bagged a bargain on a pack of two banoffee tarts, reduced to just 61p from their original price of £2.45. Turning her attention to bread, she picked up a pack of four white sourdough rolls from the Tesco finest range for only 66p, down from £1.30.

These were particularly useful as she needed rolls for that night’s burger dinner. Finally, she nabbed a pack of custard doughnuts for an incredible 30p, down from £1.20.

She exclaimed: « What an absolute bargain and the thing is my partner can take half of this to work tomorrow for lunch with him as well. » In total, the savvy shopper saved £6.90 on the five items from Tesco’s reduced section.

She jokingly questioned whether she was a « complete foodie » for « sneaking out as if I’m doing something like dodgy » when in fact she was simply heading to her local Tesco. She added: « I love going to Tesco at night anyway.

« They (have) got the tunes on, it’s quiet. I don’t know if they do this at every Tesco but at my big Tesco from 8pm is when they put all the reduced stuff out so like I was the first one there as well and I was like winning. »

The savvy shopper shared her plan to « have a little snack evening » with the haul from her post-8pm Tesco escapade. Her video caption humorously declared, « ngl (not going to lie) Tesco’s after 8pm is a whole vibe. »

The clip has racked up 216,700 views, attracted 3,108 likes and sparked a lively comment section with over 500 remarks. One viewer, no stranger to Tesco’s evening markdowns, quipped: « Why does it feel illegal lol. »

Another shopper reminisced: « I used to do that but in M&S, I used to be buzzing with all the bargains. » A third confessed their love for late-night deals, while a fourth pointed out the immediate benefit of such shopping adventures: « Good thing about doing this is you have to eat it all that night or the next day. »

Supermarket reduction sections often feature items close to expiry, so they likely have to be consumed either on the same day they were bought or the following one.
