Popular Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee items have been urgently recalled from customers due to the danger they pose. The animated characters are hugely popular with children and feature on a range of products.
However, a number of Peppa Pig and Hey Duggee items have been recalled years after they were made. Ladybird books featuring the two characters pose a choking risk to children. Four of the affected items feature Peppa Pig, while one features Hey Duggee.
They were printed in 2020 and 2021 in the UK, but present a choking risk due to small parts that can come off the books. The Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a product recall notice.
They warned: « The products present a risk of choking as the glitter varnish finish on the cover can lift and flake off, creating small parts. These small parts pose a choking hazard to children, particularly those under 36 months of age who have a natural tendency to explore objects by placing them in their mouths.
« The products do not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005. » As a result, Ladybird Books Limited has recalled the items.
The OPSS added: « We recommend that owners keep these products out of reach of young children and return it to the distributor for a full refund. »
Book publisher Penguin issued their own notice about the items. They told customers: « If you have a copy from any of the printings listed please take the book away from small children and return it to the retailer you bought it from for a full refund (there is no need to produce a receipt).
« No other printings of the titles included in this product recall or any other titles are affected by this issue. » You can find the unique print number on the copyright page inside the book to know if your item is included in the recall.
