If you’re a book lover, then you likely have at least one bookshelf in your house, filled to the brim with brand new books you haven’t read, plus the classics you might re-read, but just like to look at. You’ll have hardbacks, paperbacks, sprayed-edge editions, and you’ll probably have some book-related trinkets on your shelves as well.
But imagine having a whole library to yourself, so you could go in and sit and read uninterrupted for hours? Imagine how much reading you could actually get done!
It would be like Belle’s library in Beauty and the Beast, or Rapunzel reading “a book or maybe two or three” in the Disney version.
That’s what one woman said she was making when she made a TikTok showing off her “DIY library room”.
However, when the big reveal came, people were left feeling a little disappointed, and they were all saying the same thing about the room.
Kendra, who posts on TikTok as @kendrax2023, said she was “so in love” with the space, and of course, it is all down to personal preference and what you want your space to look like as a book lover. We’re all different after all.
First off, she opted for a dark green paint to adorn the walls with, with one woman in the comments saying people’s preference for this shade “needs to be studied”. It’s just the nicest, cosiest but also open colour.
A huge rug was then placed on the floor, and plenty of shelf space was accounted for, while cabinets were put in the room for more storage.
Kendra assembled a huge reading chair, which looked so comfortable. She popped a huge throw and lots of cushions on it, ensuring it was super cosy.
She then could be seen outside painting the shelving for her room, and then the finished product was shown off. But people were left wondering where the books were, considering it was meant to be a “library room”.
While some books were displayed, such as the ACOTAR series, people said they loved it, but she needed “to get more books” in order to refer to the space as a library.
One person wrote: “Too little books to call it library, I would need two rooms to put mine in!”
A jealous TikTok user penned: “God why do you let people with 10 books have a ‘library’ but my 800 [books] are sat in my living room. »
Tradition states to make a library, you must have 1,000 books, but of course, a personal library can have any number of books in it, and many defended her saying she can call her cosy little room whatever she likes.
“Why is everyone so concerned with the amount of books she has? God forbid she build something that she’s proud of and that she wants to share with us,” someone seethed.
