The film that introduced Pierce Brosnan to the world’s most famous spy series is leaving Amazon Prime Video soon and fans have less than two weeks to watch it.
In the seventeenth instalment of the James Bond series, agent 007 needs to prevent his former ally and rogue ex-MI6 agent, Alec Trevelyan (played by Sean Bean), who had faked his death, from targeting London with a satellite weapon able to disable any electronic device.
The story develops as Bond is assigned to investigate and track down the villain, with the help of computer programmer Natalya Simonova, who was one of the initial designers of the weapon.
Released in 1995, GoldenEye is the first film to not be based on the works of Ian Fleming, and came after a six-year hiatus in Bond movies.
Judi Dench was also introduced to the series as M, as well as Famke Janssen as Bond girl Xenia Onatopp.
The production was also graced by a theme song – ‘GoldenEye’ – written by Bono and the Edge, and performed by Tina Turner.
GoldenEye earned over $26million during its opening in North America, and grossed a record-breaking $5.5million in the UK.
Backed by critical acclaim, the film has an 80% score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes – a recognition most of the online audience seems to agree with.
“Not only is Goldeneye by far Pierce Brosnan‘s best Bond film, it’s one of the best of the entire franchise. It’s a must-see whether you’re a Bond fan or just an action fan in general”, wrote one fan on the platform.
Another added: “The story is very well elaborated, there’s real danger in every single scene. The characters are very well developed, and Pierce Brosnan is very unique and charming when portraying 007.”
A third one was more technical, saying: “The stunts are well-executed, the action is punchy, and the humour is well-placed. This reboot of the franchise was precisely what it needed.”
GoldenEye will be part of Prime Video’s catalogue until the end of November. After that, it will still be available on Apple TV.
