Finnish World War 2 action movie Sisu is a hidden gem, having hit No 1 on the Netflix UK film chart last year.

Set during 1944’s Lapland War, the original film follows a Finnish Army commando turned gold prospector attempting to defend himself from being robbed and murdered by a Waffen-SS platoon.

Influenced by the Spaghetti Westerns of Sergio Leone and Rambo First Blood, this gory flick received critical acclaim upon release and is now getting a sequel.

But now World War 2 has just ended, this time around, he’s not taking on the Nazis, but the Soviets, and specifically Stephen Lang’s Red Army commander.

The first review reactions are in from the film’s premiere at Fantastic Festival in Austin, Texas and it sounds like another smash.

Discussing Film

SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE absolutely rips. An extreme, exponential improvement on its predecessor that feels like a Wile E. Coyote/Roadrunner cartoon set in the Soviet Union. So many clever gore gags and action set-ups, plus a surprising heart. Also- Stephen Lang.

That Hashtag Show

SISU: Road to Revenge is a F***ING MASTERPIECE!! It’s an adrenaline filled action epic that I wished never ended. Aatami Korpi is EVEN more bad ass this time around. The kills are ramped up with deaths I’ve never seen and it was glorious. It’s FURY ROAD on steroids.

The Direct

Sisu: Road to Revenge is an INSANE ride down a road of absolute carnage. There’s such a visceral feel to this film, which also has endlessly creative action scenes & kills—not to mention its surprisingly emotional core. Do not sleep on this sequel, it’s a literal blast.

Mama’s Geeky

Sisu: Road To Revenge is bigger, bloodier & even more insane than the first one! The stunts & kills are absolutely bonkers! If you already loved Aatami, just wait! Jorma Tommila once again proves what a powerhouse he is! I had a freaking blast!

Loud and Clear Reviews

SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE is everything a revenge flick should be: fun, intense, and impossible to look away from. It doesn’t try to be anything more than it is, and in that simplicity, it excels.

According to Seth

Sisu: Road to Revenge is the perfect sequel. It takes everything that was great about the first film and cranks it up to insane levels—bloodier, more brutal, and more chaotic than ever. Jorma Tommila’s Aatami Korpi mows down bad guys one by one, and there’s a stunt so wild the entire theater erupted in cheers. Stephen Lang and Richard Brake are pure evil perfection, and every kill hits harder than the last. Violent, relentless, and utterly unforgettable—this is how you do a sequel.

Sean Chandler

Sisu: Road to Revenge Is bigger, bloodier and more personal than the original w/ an even better villain from Stephen Lang. The action is more varied with planes, trains, automobiles & tanks, and it finds new opportunities for utter absurdity. A sequel that surpasses the original

Cody Leach

Sisu: Raid to Revenge is a big step up from the first movie. It’s like a road trip right into Hell! More carnage, more laughs…and Stephen Lang as the villain always is a win. This was the perfect movie to see with a festival crowd and I’m rejuvenated for week 2

Mr Cosmic Circus

SISU: ROAD TO REVENGE is the Looney Tunes of action sequels, it is wacky, self-aware, and hysterically violent. The immortal is Roadrunner and the Russians are Wiley Coyote. I love it.

Sisu: Road to Revenge hits cinemas on November 21, 2025.
