Currently, New Look is selling a khaki green unlined shower resistant rain coat for £29.99, down from £39.99. Its trendy silhouette is reminiscent of significantly more expensive jackets like the Barbour Arla, which is £300 on the brand’s site, giving shoppers an affordable alternative that’s around a tenth of the price.
This practical everyday jacket features a drawstring hood and is made from a lightweight recycled polyester that’s water resistant, providing ample protection against showers. It’s fastened at the front with a practical zip, while press studs add a touch of rustic style.
As the jacket is unlined, it’s ideal for layering with warmer garments during the winter, but will remain useful come spring time or even rainy summer days. Finally, press-stud pouches add a practical touch for carrying valuables.
As for sizing, the rain jacket comes in UK 6 to 22. There are also light pink and grey versions available, while the black and cream variants are out of stock.
Elsewhere, Mountain Warehouse sells a Swerve women’s packaway waterproof jacket that’s currently £24.99 for the light teal colour, with 62% off the original price of £64.99. This jacket suits rainier conditions, as it’s been treated with a grade 4 DWR coating that’s waterproof to 2,000mm, according to the brand. It also comes in bright pink and sizes 6 to 24.
For something warmer, Next sells a Joules Portwell cosy navy fleece-lined waterproof raincoat for £109. It has several practical features for wet weather, including taped seams, a hood with storm peak and drawcords, and a storm flap on the back, while its half-body fleece lining keeps chills off during the winter months. It comes in sizes 6 to 26 and also black and brown versions.
The New Look shower-resistant coat has been a hit with shoppers, however, who’ve rated it 4.8 out of five on the retailer’s website. One customer said: “A great jacket which is both function and fashion. Often with waterproof jackets there is a compromise on style but this one is a great fit and beautifully feminine. A must have for this time of year.”
Another chimed in: “Lovely fit and very waterproof. Hood is also a good size.”
A third shopper added: “Perfect! Lightweight, I sized up so I can wear jumpers underneath in the colder months and that was the right decision. It’s comfy to wear also, as I know some coats like this can be a bit stiff, but this one isn’t.”
One New Look customer did mention the sizing, saying: “Very pleased with the jacket, as expected. Quite roomy, I’m a 12-14, I got a 14 but could have fitted a 12.”
A second agreed: “Love this jacket. I’d say it runs slightly large, but that’s fine as it means I can wear a thick jumper underneath. It’s comfortable and the hood is a good size too. Very pleased.”
