A Gossip Girl star and fan-favourite Supernatural actor have been cast in an upcoming Netflix romance film.

Based on the 2022 novel The Bodyguard by Katherine Center, Netflix’s new film will revolve around a “no non-sense bodyguard who is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays”.

What’s even more exciting than it being based on a hit novel is the fact that it stars actress Leighton Meester and actor Jared Padalecki as its lead romantic stars.

Meester is globally recognised as sassy Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl, although more recently she has been in I Love LA, The Buccaneers and Nobody Wants This season two.

Padalecki, on the other hand, is famed for starring as Sam Winchester in the horror drama Supernatural, as well as Cordell Walker in The CW’s Walker.

This Netflix announcement has sparked a major frenzy among book lovers and TV fanatics alike with one fan stating: “Gossip Girl//Supernatural crossover of our dreams.”

“This was actually one of my favourite [books] of last year! I can’t wait!” said another.

A fellow fan wrote: “Blair Waldorf protecting Dean Winchester at Christmas??

“This is the multiverse of madness I signed up for. Inject it directly into my veins Netflix.”

Someone else agreed: “A holiday rom com with that pairing already sounds like trouble wrapped in tinsel, the kind of chaos you know will end in a smile.”

While a user shared: “My gossip girl and supernatural fangirl self is confused but excited.”

Unexpectedly, the festive film will see Meester portray the bodyguard rather than Padalecki, a detail that hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans.

Someone exclaimed: “Blair is the bodyguard..?!” as a second queried: “Leighton is 5’5 and Jared is 6’4 and SHE’S the bodyguard?”

Another person then happily remarked: “SHE is the bodyguard? I am sat.”

As of yet, an official release date hasn’t been given for the film with fans also being given the chance to rename the adaptation.

Netflix is asking those interested in taking part to visit Meester, Padalecki or Katherine Center’s Instagram pages for more details.

Other big names are joining the lead actors as well including Four Weddings and A Funeral icon Andie MacDowell and My Life With The Walter Boys actor Noah LaLonde.

On top of the star-studded cast, the movie has also welcomed Ginny and Georgia director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum and Virgin River writer Richard Keith on board.
