NatWest is set to close as many as 20 bank branches in October in another blow to the high street, as fewer customers make in-person visits.

According to NatWest, more than 80% of their current account holders now use digital platforms to do their banking, and most new accounts are opened online. A statement on NatWest’s website reads: “Banking has changed dramatically in recent years, with an increased demand for mobile and online services, as our customers benefit from a faster and easier way to bank.” It added: “Closing a branch is a decision we take very seriously. We know it can affect those who are less confident with the alternatives we offer. We’ll always work hard to guide and support you through the changes and find the best way to serve you from now on.”

NatWest has confirmed the following branches will close in October:

In addition to this, ‘Banking Hubs’ have been launched to give more customers access to cash and services regardless of their bank. People can find their closest location here. More than 170 banking hubs have been opened across the UK so far.
