Nationwide’s mobile app appears to be experiencing issues, with thousands of people reporting troubles accessing their online accounts. According to Down Detector, reports of outages peaked at 2,075 at around 2.49pm. One X user wrote at 3.18pm: « Can’t get logged on is there a problem? » A Nationwide spokesperson replied: « Hi there, sorry, both our Banking app and Internet Bank are unavailable. We’re working to get things back to normal as soon as we can. » Another person wrote: « Is the iOS app working properly?
« Keep getting an error message when trying to open the app. » A different user wrote: « Can’t access my Nationwide app keeps saying service unavailable. Restart app or check the service. But the service says everything is working fine. » Another person asked: « Do we know when the service will be back up as I need to transfer money? » Another account said: « Any idea when the app will be available again? Bit of an inconvenience breaking in the middle of the day. »
A spokesperson for Nationwide pointed them to a contact page, in case they would « like information about how to offer feedback or raise a complaint ».
A particularly frustrated customer said: « Hopeless! Cannot access my accounts via the app or online.
« Will be switching my account once this is resolved. »
Replying to Nationwide’s assurance that it was working on the issue and the bank’s offer to provide feedback, they said: « Don’t worry! I will!
« And I’ll be closing all my accounts. »
Another person asked: « Is there an issue with log in? I cannot log in via app or website.
« Keeping saying ‘we’re experiencing technical issues’. »
The bank’s website reads: « We’re committed to making sure you get the best possible service.
« Sometimes we need to work on our Internet Bank, Banking app and other systems but we’ll always try to minimise disruption. »
Nationwide adds on its website that whenever the firm has « important improvements » to make, it will « try to minimise disruption » to members by taking services offline at off-peak times, like weekends or early hours, letting customers know in advance, as well as notifying them when the works have been completed.
