Marks and Spencer recently closed its legendary Stall Street store in Bath, which was open for 93 years. The iconic shop shut its doors permanently as the supermarket relocated to the new M&S flagship store at SouthGate, also in Bath, where the staff have been transferred.
The retailer has also announced further closures of its in-store cafes. The company confirmed that the M&S cafe in Barn Road, Congleton, Cheshire, will be closing down to make way for more products. Marks and Spencer’s regional manager Katie Whelan said: “After reviewing our Congleton store, we are re-purposing the café space in-store to provide more product choice and improve the shopping experience. We understand this will be disappointing news for some of our customers; however, our teams will continue working hard to serve them in-store.”

However, Marks and Spencer has ambitious plans to open 500 new stores across England in the next few years.
The Original Factory Shop has confirmed the closure of its three Northern Ireland shops after the company collapsed into administration. The affected stores are the Ballycastle, Portrush and Warrenpoint branches, which have launched closing down sales.
The retailer recently shut its Prudhoe branch in Northumberland. The Original Factory Shop said the company has been hit by high cost inflation, changing consumer behaviour and rising labour costs. The beloved discount department store first launched in England in 1969, and then expanded to around 10 shops in Northern Ireland at its peak. In a statement, the retailer said: “While this is not the outcome we would have hoped for, we are incredibly grateful for the loyalty, kindness, and support you have shown our team.”
