Man’s heartwarming note about neighbour’s cat is making people’s day

Living below someone can prove nightmarish when they’re perpetually stomping about, playing loud music, or simply making excessive noise during everyday activities. Whilst it’s difficult to remain silent, prolonged disturbance may push you to your breaking point, forcing a conversation in hopes they’ll reduce the racket, even slightly.

However, when a new resident moved in upstairs, one gentleman felt compelled to pen a note to his neighbour – though it likely wasn’t what you’d anticipate.

Posting to Reddit’s ‘Apartment Living’ forum, he shared a photograph of the handwritten message, which would delight any recipient.

He’d written: « Dear [redacted] in 201. I have to inform you of your cat. He or she runs around a lot. I can hear the pitter patter of their feet on my ceiling.

« It’s very cute and brings me a lot of joy when I hear it. Tell them to keep it up. [Redacted] Downstairs neighbour ».

He then explained: « I have a new neighbour upstairs with a very energetic kitty », clarifying why he’d chosen to send the charming note, which presumably brought considerable happiness.

Within the comments section, one person remarked they adore « ceiling cat tippy taps ».

« Never realised until now the kind of ceiling noise I was missing in my life, » another quipped. One fellow pet enthusiast revealed: « I had three Irish tap-dancing dogs (or dogs who thought they could Riverdance) living right above my head for a year. So. Loud. They chased each other back and forth all hours of the day. I never fussed about it, though. I got so used to it, I was actually able to tone it out, and it was like ambient sound to me ».

Another resident commented: « Our apartments aren’t too close together, so I rarely hear people living at all. The cat that lives above me meows incessantly when it’s hungry (which is always, apparently), and it genuinely sounds like a woman screaming for help. »

They continued: « Recently, we got a porch camera, and I learned that a child lives in that same apartment?! I’ve never seen or heard them once ».

One contributor noted that whilst « lying in bed » no « noise is going to be comforting » for them, though people clearly differ in what they find soothing.

An apartment dweller expressed fondness for the sound of « zoomies, » explaining: « I used to hear my neighbours’ cats get the zoomies and it was so cute. You could only hear it if the apartment was completely quiet, but it literally was the best kind of neighbour noise ».

A feline fan added: « My 15 lb tuxedo cat runs up and down the hall after he finishes pooping, I don’t know why. If I got this note from my neighbour, I would think it was cute and be appreciative of the lighthearted humour! »
