Walking into someone’s house and realising that it smells absolutely amazing can spark a bit of jealousy in you. How do they get their home to smell so good?
But the answer isn’t necessarily £100 reed diffusers in every room—it could be a simple, inexpensive cushion method. If you’ve got guests coming over, you don’t want it to have a foul odour, so @anna_louisa_at_home shared that there are ways to make your home “smell 10/10” before people come over.
But where do cushions come into it? Well, Anna shared that you can “hide DIY scent bags in your cushions” to make the smell permeate throughout the room.
She explained: “I fill organza bags with either Epsom salts or rice with a few drops of essential oil.”
Epsom salts can be purchased for around £1 for a small bag. If you’d prefer to use essential oils, the likelihood is that you already have them in your home, but if not, they can be picked up cheaply.
For example, lavender essential oil smells incredible and can be purchased on Amazon for just £3. She did warn though: “Always check which essential oils are safe to use if you have pets or are pregnant”.
But if this hack isn’t for you, Anna has some other suggestions to make your house smell elite. She suggested that before your guests are due to arrive, you add “one or two capfuls of your favourite disinfectant to boiling water in the kitchen sink.”
But many will be left wondering how that will help your home to smell good, and banish any unwanted odours.
Well, she shared that: “The steam will fill the room with the scent,” meaning that the whole house will smell incredible from the moment you step in.
Her final life hack for an amazing-smelling home was to “add a few drops of essential oil to cotton wool balls and place them at the base of your bathroom bin to keep it smelling fresh.”
