I spent 5 months testing Victoria Beckham’s favourite tool for perfect skin

I’m deeply insecure. I hate to admit it, but no matter how ‘youthful’ I may look, I always feel like I miss the mark on ‘natural beauty.’ Even though we experienced three heatwaves this summer, I would always be outside in makeup; despite it being so foolish, I’d rather melt it all off in the sun than never wear it at all. My state of insecurity would even go as far as never popping to the shops around the corner without a full face on.

My skin is rather dull and uneven, and I can suffer from acne breakouts. I’ve tried experimenting with everything from collagen masks to vitamin C serums and hydrating creams; each product promised results, but none of them delivered anything long-term. I was about to give up until I discovered the fad that is LED light therapy masks, which are a favourite among celebrities such as Victoria Beckham, Olivia Attwood, and Kim Kardashian.

Victoria Beckham, in particular, is known for her perfect, naturally glowing skin and has launched her own brand of skincare. In a video titled ‘Self-care Sunday,’ the beauty icon explained her beauty routine, including using an LED light therapy mask.

On Instagram, she shared: « On a Sunday morning, I try to find time for a pamper session. I apply a face mask. I leave this on for as long as I can, then remove it with my @VictoriaBeckhamBeauty Daily Cleansing Protocol. This is followed by a session under my LED mask, followed by @VictoriaBeckhamBeauty x @AugustinusBader Power Serum + Priming Moisturiser, and ready to go for the day! »

According to beauty magazine Grazia UK, Victoria Beckham uses the Celluma PRO mask, which costs a whopping £2,095. She has also been spotted using the Opera LED mask, which costs over £1,400, according to The Sun. However, I was fortunate enough to test out Ulike’s LED light therapy mask that costs £349, but is now retailing for £249.

How Ulike’s LED mask works

The Ulike ReGlow Mask uses multi-wavelength LED light therapy to target specific skin concerns like firmness, acne, inflammation, and dullness. Each light colour penetrates the skin at different depths to stimulate cellular activity, boost collagen production, and improving overall skin texture and radiance with consistent use.

However, this mask should not be used daily. A spokesperson for Ulike advised: « It is recommended to use the device three times a week.

« You can choose the mode based on your skin condition. Glow and Clear modes last five minutes each, and Firm and Rejuvenate modes last eight minutes each. For best results, use one to two modes per session, not exceeding 20 minutes in total.

« It is not recommended to use our device during menstruation, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Hormonal fluctuations during these periods may increase skin sensitivity, potentially leading to discomfort or adverse reactions. »

The following groups should avoid using the device:

  • Those with heart diseases, heart dysfunction, or prone to dysfunction
  • People who are intoxicated or unconscious
  • People who cannot sense temperature or stimuli
  • Individuals with autoimmune diseases
  • Don’t use for two weeks after surgery

The results

Most products work if you actually use them correctly. I’m only human (an impatient one at that), so I can occasionally make the odd mistake that makes me question the effectiveness of a product. I used the LED face mask on all the settings in one go, which you should not do. As stated above, you should use two settings per session for maximum effectiveness, but I didn’t know this until it was too late (always read the instructions!). This caused me to break out a little bit, but my skin is very sensitive, so I should have eased my way through the process. I also used this machine during my menstrual cycle, which also caused my hormonal acne to become worse.

However, once I got the hang of the machine (clearly reading the instructions), my skin evened out. I focused on the clear and glow settings, and after two weeks, I definitely began seeing a difference. I woke up with more hydrated skin that looked refreshed rather than dull. After two months, my skin was looking rejuvenated, and I was comfortable enough to even brave the big city without makeup, and no one looked at me weirdly or judged me; in fact, I would get ID’d for paracetamol at the supermarket! Despite being in my mid-20s, people were convinced I looked in my early teens, cutting a good 10 years off my age—a compliment I rarely hear.

It’s month five now, and I have to admit, I started slacking after my experiment. If I’m honest, I am such a lazy person who lacks consistency when it comes to beauty. But I feel as though my skin has regressed a bit. From what felt like a refreshed, glowing version of myself, I reverted to being dull and lifeless. Being persistent and consistent is definitely key to this face mask. It’s easy to use and major eye holes make it convenient to have on while doing tasks around the house or simply watching TV. My only criticism is that I have a lot of hair, and it can be a bit tight around my head, but this can be adjusted with the straps.

Overall, I really like this mask, as someone who has tried all the beauty fads, I definitely believe this is worth your money for people of all ages looking for fast results to improve their skin. ULike’s mask is versatile, has the ability to work with all types of skin and has long-lasting effects if you remain consistent. Despite its price, you no longer have to keep splurging on expensive anti-ageing or hydrating creams, which in the long run add up to the same price.

Reviews elsewhere

The mask currently boasts 4.96 stars on its official website. One completely satisfied customer commented: « It’s amazing. I love it. I bought it to address hyperpigmentation, prevent breakouts and increase collagen. I hope they sell those face masks too because those are also bomb. So hydrating and it provides great face coverage.

« I have full lips, and the mouth hole is big enough. For the past three days, I’ve used both products as my self-care treat after work. The only thing I dislike is that the light mask can be uncomfortable on the bridge of my nose. My husband experienced the same thing. So far, I have found that if I push on the chin of the mask, it relieves some of the pressure. It’s not awful by any means, it’s just that annoying pain. »

Another who gave the mask four stars stated, « This feels soothing and fits well. It’s easy to use and has pretty good battery life. It’s comfortable enough to wear for the amount of time required. »
