I shopped at Sainsbury’s for a week—this is the best time for yellow sticker items

Yellow sticker labels, often seen on supermarket shelves, mark items nearing their expiration date. Typically, the item will be out of date that day or the next. These labels are bright yellow, so they don’t go unnoticed, and the savings are often big. This practice helps supermarkets like Sainsbury’s reduce waste as well as allow customers to purchase items at a lower cost.

The majority of discounted items can be frozen and often include breads, ready meals and meat. I recently visited my local M&S to see when their bargains were the best, so I thought I would try the same with Sainsbury’s, another retailer I shop at.

Yellow sticker label items are typically applied in the evening, or so I thought until my recent trip to M&S, where the best bargains were found at lunchtime.

On my first visit to Sainsbury’s, I found a huge selection of reduced items in one section and others scattered around the store.

I visited around 5pm, and the discounted goods included Charlie Bigham meals, because let’s face it, the original price is too steep for a lot of people.

I managed to pick up their mac and cheese and spaghetti bolognese and made a huge saving.

Other discounted items included potatoes and ready meals. I thought the array was good, and there was a lot on offer at this time.

As well as potatoes and ready meals, the bakery section had a huge reduction trolley with baked goods like doughnuts and breads with discounts.

I managed to pick up a pack of four doughnuts for just 50p, which was an absolute bargain.

I also visited the store in the morning a couple of times, but found that this wasn’t a great time for me to pick up any discounted goods at my local Sainsbury’s.

When I visited, at around 8am, I didn’t really find anything worth purchasing, although there was a pot of peas on one shelf.

I also couldn’t find any goods at lunchtime either which is the time I found the best items in M&S.

I highly recommend searching for yellow sticker labels when shopping. You can save a lot of cash and reduce food waste by doing so.
