The 77-year-old may have 1100 pages finished, but he’s given that number before and admits he has a tendency to go back, delete and rewrite chapters.
He’s also often busy travelling abroad on business and has many projects on the go, including his responsibilities for Game of Thrones spin-off shows.
But now, after almost two months, he’s written a blog update, confirming he’s back home in Santa Fe.
He wrote on his blog: “No, I have not forgotten how to blog. I just haven’t had the time, or the energy. Too much else to do, too many projects, too many deadlines, and I was behind on everything… I prefer not to lug a computer along with me when I travel. (I tried it, decades ago, and it never worked).” Of course, with no computer when travelling, Martin only writes at home, which means more delays in finishing The Winds of Winter.
However, one line in the update gives fans hope.
Martin wrote: “I am back at home in Santa Fe at last, I am pleased to say, settling back in at my computer in the Land of Enchantment.”
Of course, he recently admitted he also works on Fire and Blood Volume 2 and the next Dunk and Egg, so it should be tentative hope he’s writing The Winds of Winter. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before his next progress update but don’t expect a release date anytime soon.
