The Lloyds Banking group is set to close a total of 252 bank branches during 2025 and 2026, citing a growing reliance on online and mobile banking services.The banking giant said the decision to close branches of Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland was made after it had asessed the likely impact on customers – including how they continue to access banking services.

Since January 2015, banks and building societies have closed 6,214 branches, according to Which?. This equates to an average of around 53 closures each month. Below we have listed the branches of Halifax, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland around the UK set to close in April, with addresses of the branch and the exact dates scheduled for closure.

Money Saving Expert said customers of Lloyds, Halifax or Bank of Scotland, may want to consider switching to a bank with a local branch nearby – although it pointed out that there isno guarantee that won’t close as well.

  • First Direct – get a free £175 for switching, plus access to a 7% regular saver, fee-free spending overseas and a £250 0% overdraft. To get the free cash, you can’t have ever had any account with First Direct, and you can’t have had an account with HSBC since January 2018.

    First Direct doesn’t have any branches of its own, but First Direct customers can use HSBC branches to pay in cheques, as well as deposit and withdraw cash. So, it could be an option if you have an HSBC branch nearby. HSBC pledged in August 2024 not to close any further branches until at least 2026.

  • Nationwide FlexDirect – get a free £175 for switching, plus 5% interest on up to £1,500, 1% cashback for 12 months and access to a 6.5% regular saver. To get the free cash, you can’t have switched to a Nationwide account, or have received switch cash from Nationwide, since 18 August 2021.

    Nationwide pledged in 2019 to keep all of its current bank branches open until at least the start of 2028.

  • Santander Edge – get a free £150, plus access to a 6% easy-access saver and 1% cashback on bills. To get the free cash, you can’t have had a switch bonus from Santander since September 2021, and you must be switching from a non-Santander, Cahoot or Cater Allen account.

  • TSB Spend & Save – get a free £100, plus £10 a month cashback for six months, plus a choice of an extra reward in September. To get the free cash, you can’t have had a switch bonus from TSB since 1 October 2022.
