Florida State has another supporter in its corner: Aaron Rodgers. The Seminoles’ punishment for winning the ACC and clinching a perfect 13-0 season was dropping from No. 4 to No. 5 in the rankings and missing out on the College Football Playoff. The decision came with plenty of controversy, understandably so, as Texas took the No. 3 spot with their Big 12 title, and Alabama jumped to No. 4 after upsetting Georgia in the SEC championship game. The MLB Winter Meetings are where the magic happens. Small deals have been made here and there, and plenty of groundwork has been made. However, the Winter Meetings are when blockbuster moves are made. The meetings begin Monday in Nashville, Tennessee, and three names far and away lead the pack among the most talked about: Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Ohtani is a free agent for the first time, Soto is again on the trade market, and Yamamoto is a Japanese import who, if you don’t know now, you will soon. Tyreek Hill inched closer to a record no wide receiver has ever accomplished before – 2,000 yards receiving – after having a big game in the Miami Dolphins’ 45-15 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday. Hill had five catches for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the win. He improved his season totals to 1,481 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches. It was the eighth time he surpassed 100 yards receiving in a game and his second multi-score game of the season. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is under the weather heading into Sunday’s matchup against the Denver Broncos on the road, but that won’t keep him out of this AFC West rivalry game.  The Chiefs announced that Mahomes is dealing with an illness, but he did not get an injury designation on Sunday morning that would put his status for the game in jeopardy. Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy want to end former NFL player Michael Oher’s conservatorship, their lawyers said Wednesday. Lawyer Randall Fishman said Oher mentioned the Tuohys being conservators for him three times in his 2011 book, “I Beat The Odds: From Homeless, To The Blindside.” The Tuohys’ lawyers said Oher knew he had not been adopted despite the former player’s allegations in Tennessee court earlier this week. The family intends to enter into a consent order to end the conservatorship, Fishman said. The family’s attorney also said the Tuohys and Oher had been estranged about a decade. Steve Farese said Oher had become “more and more vocal and more and more threatening” over the past decade or so, and this is “devastating for the family.R...

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith was reportedly absent from Wednesday’s team practice so he could attend the hearing of former Alabama teammate, Henry Ruggs III. Ruggs was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison for his role in a DUI crash that killed a Las Vegas woman and her dog in 2021. Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert missed Tuesday’s play-in game after he threw a punch at teammate Kyle Anderson during a heated argument. The incident happened in the huddle during a timeout in the second quarter of Minnesota’s final regular-season game. The Timberwolves suspended Gobert for the game against the Lakers as punishment, and Minnesota lost 108-102 in overtime to Los Angeles.
