UKHSA warns people with ‘headache’ or ‘sickness’ it may be ‘poisoning’

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has posted an online warning, alerting people to watch out for an "invisible danger" that could cause you to feel unwell. So if you have a headache or feel sick, you may not be coming down with the cold at all, but rather "carbon monoxide poisoning". Talking to X, the official agency said that there are four things people across the UK should be doing, whether they live in a flat, house or bungalow. It writes: "Carbon monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas that you cannot see, smell or taste - but it can kill. Make sure you understand the symptoms, learn who is most at risk, get fuel-burning appliances checked and get a CO alarm."As temperatures drop, we close windows and turn on heating. But this can let that invisible threat, carbon monoxide...

Dog owner tearful as they realise why puppy always sleeps in same spot

A Golden Retriever puppy left his owner in tears after she discovered why he kept choosing to sleep in the same location within their home.Eight-week-old Humphrey initially left Lily puzzled by his insistence on repeatedly dozing beneath her living room's TV cabinet. "He did this for the first few days with us and we didn't know why," Lily disclosed in a TikTok post. However, she explained she subsequently "made a connection" which "makes so much more sense". The Golden Retriever owner then posted a throwback photograph featuring a newborn Humphrey alongside his siblings, which seemed to provide an answer. The image depicted the young dogs all nestled together in a comparable environment at their breeder's residence, sound asleep and sheltered by a similar type of structure. "I wonder if ...

Dog expert shares the reason dogs get excited when you come home

Dogs develop expectations founded on time-related routines, neighbourhood sound patterns, lighting variations and movement within the property (Image: Sally Anscombe via Getty Images)A common experience for countless dog owners involves returning to their road, opening the front door, and being met by their pet as though they somehow predicted their homecoming. While many believe it's purely devotion or acute hearing, specialists suggest the reasoning is more intricate and remarkably scientific. Based on animal behaviour studies, dogs don't merely depend on sound. They are exceptionally sensitive to routine, minor environmental signals, and even fluctuations in scent concentrations within the household.Chris Maxted, director of British dog safety gate company Dog-G8, explains the behavi...

Little-known 4-minute rule explained as clocks set to spring forward

The clocks change next month (Image: Getty)Many Britons eagerly anticipate the end of dark mornings and evenings, which typically signals the arrival of milder weather. Whilst the darker, cold nights might suit the winter festive period, once they've passed, the countdown begins for spring and summer, bringing extended days and, with any luck, sunshine. The most significant shift occurs when the clocks change, moving from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to British Summer Time. This year, it takes place on March 29, with clocks staying that way until October 25 when they'll revert to GMT. However, there's also a four-minute rule that will see evenings become lighter throughout March. This means that by the end of the month, it won't simply be the additional hour of daylight that people will be ...

Pretty UK seaside town named ‘best’ but is miles away from a beach

One extraordinary town has been dubbed one of the "best seaside towns" in Britain owing to its captivating coastal charm, despite not actually sitting beside the sea. Dartmouth is a stunning town in Devon, England, nestled alongside the River Dart which flows into the English Channel. It is celebrated for its gorgeous pastel-coloured properties lining the waterfront, which buzzes with activity as boats sail by. It has been highlighted as one of the UK's "best staycation ideas" by CN Traveller, and has recently been crowned one of England's "best seaside towns" by Time Out, despite having no beach to speak of. The coast is a few miles away from the pretty riverside town of Dartmouth, however the aura of the place does still have a seaside-like vibe.  READ MORE: I visited Victorian-era to...
