Warning to savers moving money as Rachel Reeves closes ‘loophole’ | Personal Finance | Finance

Savers trying to get around the new lower limit for cash ISAs are being warned after HM Revenue and Customs announced new rules aimed at stopping them. Currently, people can save up to £20,000 annually in cash ISAs, stocks and shares ISAs, or a mix of both. But Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the Budget that, from April 2027, the annual adult cash ISA limit will be slashed to £12,000. Only the over-65s will retain the full £20,000 annual cash ISA allowance. While the total tax-free limit remains £20,000, the Chancellor wants the remaining £8,000 invested in the stock market to help boost Britain's sluggish economy. After the Chancellor unveiled the plan, experts said savers could simply open a stocks and shares ISA and deposit the £8,000 in it as cash, instead of buying shares.HMRC h...

Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to support local

Small Business Administration Administrator Kelly Loeffler touts how President Donald Trump's economic policies create jobs and benefit small businesses on ‘Kudlow.’ After many Americans go big for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, the Saturday that follows has become the moment to shop small. Observed annually during the first weekend after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday encourages consumers to redirect some of their holiday spending toward small businesses — the backbone of the U.S. economy."With the economy rebounding from forty-year high inflation, there’s never been a better time to shop small in support of local businesses," Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Kelly Loeffler said in a statement. Small businesses employ roughly half of the private-sector work...

Did Rachel Reeves lie to justify £26bn Budget raid? Evidence is damnin | Personal Finance | Finance

Rachel Reeves stands accused of misleading the nation. That’s a serious allegation. If true, she must surely resign. But can it really be so? The UK’s first ever female chancellor, admired by young girls around the country, telling porkies? Let’s examine the evidence. On Wednesday, in full view of the nation and with malice aforethought, Reeves delivered her second Budget. In doing so, she inflicted a cruel and injurious assault on the nation’s wellbeing. Basically, she coshed taxpayers over the head and emptied their wallets.Reeves snatched £26billion. That was on top of the £40billion she grabbed in a similar raid last year. This happened around 1pm on November 26. It was daylight robbery. We know the raid happened, but Reeves insists she had no choice. That she needed the cash to plug ...

Two major UK banks are currently offering £175 to customers who follow three steps. These conditions are part of the process for switching to their services. It’s quite common for banks to offer rewards for switching to them. These deals typically come about when they’re looking to expand their customer base. The team at Money Saving Expert (MSE), explained: “Banks sometimes offer switch incentives – free cash, boosted savings rates or other perks – to new customers who switch in an existing current account to a new current account with them. Essentially, banks want your custom and switch bribes are a double win for banks – you not only join them, but you leave one of their rivals.”However, these deals are usually offered for a limited time only. Two deals currently available in the UK in...

Martin Lewis issues new ‘tax rise’ alert to people with savings accounts | Personal Finance | Finance

Money saving expert Martin Lewis has warned savers they could face more tax following Rachel Reeves' Budget on Wednesday. Savers who do not keep money in tax-free wrappers, such as ISAs, are set to see a tax hike on interest they earn if they cross the threshold.Ms Reeves will increase the tax on savings interest by 2% across every bracket level, effective April 6, 2027. This means if your savings interest exceeds your personal allowance, a higher tax rate will apply. The personal savings allowance allows basic rate taxpayers to earn up to £1,000 in interest before paying tax, while higher rate taxpayers have a £500 allowance. Additional rate taxpayers receive no exemption. The new tax rates on cash savings will be 22% for basic rate taxpayers, 42% for higher rate payers and 47% for add...

2 pension tricks to outwit Rachel Reeves as savings to be ransacked | Personal Finance | Finance

An expert has issued two pieces of crucial advice to savers after Rachel Reeves announced in her Budget that she would raid Brits' pension savings. From April 2029, the amount that is exempt from national insurance will be capped at £2,000 a year for employee contributions made via salary sacrifice – when an employee agrees to reduce their gross salary or sacrifice a bonus so that their employer pays the same amount into their pension. It was one of a host of fiscal changes announced by Ms Reeves designed to raise additional revenue.Andrew Prosser, Head of Investments at InvestEngine, said the change will not matter much to those earning £40,000 and contributing 5% of your salary, as they are "well within the limit". He added: "But for higher earners, the impact is bigger and over decad...

NatWest contacts customers after Rachel Reeves Autumn Budget 2025 – ‘i | Personal Finance | Finance

NatWest has contacted customers after changes were announced in this week's Autumn Budget. Labour Chancellor Rachel Reeves presented her plans for the economy to Parliament on Wednesday. One key change was lifting the two-child benefit cap from April. It has been claimed this will lift 450,000 children out of poverty but will cost the treasury £2.3bn.However the MP revealed a range of other hard-hitting measures to plug a financial gap including freezing tax thresholds, introducing a 3p per mile charge for electric cars and charging national insurance on salary-sacrificed pension contributions above an annual £2,000 threshold. It has also said it will change the limits for some ISAs with savers only able to put up to £12,000 into cash ISAs tax-free each year. This is reduced from £20,000 ...
