Brits are urged to check if they could qualify for financial support from their local council. Certain people will be eligible for assistance from the Household Support Fund.
However, the distribution of this assistance will vary by location as each council has the discretion to decide how to allocate the support.
The Office of Gas and Electricity Markets (Ofgem) issued a reminder about this fund via a post on social media platform X.
Ofgem stated: « Did you know, you might be eligible for help from the Government’s Household Support Fund? You can apply through your local council for financial support with essentials including utility bills.
Further details about the scheme can be found on the Government website.
The site explains: « You may be able to get help with essential costs from your local council. This is sometimes known as ‘the Household Support Fund’. »
According to GOV.UK, this could be beneficial if you’re « struggling to afford things like »:
- Energy and water bills
- Food
- Essential items
Your local council may also provide food vouchers to families during school holidays. It’s important to note that this funding isn’t exclusively for individuals receiving benefits.
As per GOV.UK: « Funding is aimed at anyone who’s vulnerable or cannot pay for essentials. You do not have to be getting benefits to get help from your local council. »
However, if you receive benefits, any payment from a Household Support Fund scheme will not impact them.
