Beauty writer tries Emma Bunton’s favourite hair mask

Last year, I chose to brighten my naturally dark hair with delicate caramel brown hues. To sidestep a home hair catastrophe, I left this task in the capable hands of my hairdresser.

Despite adoring my lighter tresses, the bleach and dye have rendered my hair dull, dry, and brittle, even with regular salon visits. In an effort to restore some vitality and gloss to my hair, I’ve turned to Give Me Cosmetics The Full Haircare Set.

This seven-piece gift set, valued at £67.93, is typically priced at £34.99 but is currently on offer for £22.99. The revitalising haircare kit includes a detangling brush, shampoo and conditioner, hair mask, leave-in conditioning cream, heat defence spray, and serum.

Remarkably, all of the products are full-sized, making the set fantastic value for money. I wash my hair twice a week, so these products should hopefully last me several months. They all feature argan oil and coconut oil, natural ingredients that act as a hydrating tonic for hair, reports the Mirror.

The packaging has clearly been carefully considered. The vibrant colours truly distinguish it from the products ypically found on the shelves of Boots and Superdrug. The products are clearly labelled and aptly named, making it straightforward for even a haircare beginner to understand their purpose. The first product I tested was the detangling brush, which is undoubtedly the best of its kind I’ve used.

Designed to cleanse hair prior to washing, the fine bristles effectively eliminated any dry skin from my scalp, as well as residue from hairspray and dry shampoo. Following this, I used the in-shower products: shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask.

The Argan Oil and Coconut Oil Shampoo carries a subtle bubble gum scent, which I found rather delightful. Both the Argan Oil and Coconut Oil Shampoo and Conditioner are paraben-free; while this is beneficial for my scalp and hair, it means I didn’t experience the soap suds I’m used to when washing my hair.

I’ve utilised it several times since receiving it, and it leaves my hair feeling clean without being overly dry, unlike some other shampoos. The standout product for me is the Argan Oil and Coconut Oil Conditioner, which is my favourite item in the kit. It’s the thickest formula I’ve ever come across in a hair conditioner. My locks soaked it up, particularly the ends, which are as dry as straw.

I expected the Argan Oil and Coconut Oil Hair Mask to be similar or even thicker than the conditioner, but it’s more comparable to the shampoo. This is the same hair mask that Emma Bunton reported relied on when she couldn’t use salons during lockdown, so I was keen to see if I could emulate the Spice Girl’s stunning locks.

Personally, I believe the other products outshine this one, particularly as I was quite taken with the conditioner’s thick formula. The hair mask seems to have a thinner consistency, allowing users to apply it to dry hair, leave it for several hours, and then fashion it into a bun.

The Argan Oil and Coconut Oil Hair Mask is a customer favourite and best-seller – not to mention a firm favourite of Michelle Keegan – so perhaps my hair simply preferred the other products. In keeping with hydration, this hair kit also features an Argan Oil and Castor Oil Hair Repair Cream, conveniently housed in a pump-style bottle for effortless application without excess.

It’s brimming with Castor Oil, Argan Oil, vitamins B3 and B5, and strengthening protein. The kit also includes a heat defence and a serum. The serum is rather thick. I used two pumps on my fairly long hair, and it proved slightly too much. A little certainly goes a long way.

In conclusion, this is among the best haircare ranges I’ve tried all last year. It’s incredibly hydrating and nourishing, making it a godsend for coloured, bleached hair or those who frequently subject their locks to heat.

Alternatively, there are several other haircare sets from various brands available. This Color Wow Dream Smooth kit is currently priced at £29 at Cult Beauty. It comprises a shampoo, a conditioner and a shine spray.

Meanwhile, this Redken Strength Repair shampoo and conditioner set is available for £47.30 from Boots. It’s specifically designed for damaged hair.
