The trailer for the upcoming romantic comedy film Materialists has been unveiled, ahead of its release on June 13.
Directed and written by Celine Song, who was behind the Oscar-nominated film Past Lives, the movie features Pedro Pascal, Chris Evans, and Dakota Johnson in the main roles.
In the 2:21 trailer, Dakota’s character Lucy finds herself caught between her attraction to Randy, played by Pedro Pascal, and John, portrayed by Chris Evans, setting the stage for a complicated love triangle.
As Lucy navigates her feelings for the two charming men, she must ultimately decide which one to choose.
The plot summary states: « A young, ambitious New York City matchmaker finds herself torn between the perfect match and her imperfect ex. »
« The love triangle begins to have harsh and life-threatening effects on her clients as business mixes with romance. » In addition to the lead actors, the film also features Zoe Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, Sawyer Spielberg, Eddie Cahill, and Fernando Belo in supporting roles, reports the Mirror US.
The A24 film was shot in just three months, from April to June last year, in New York City. Following the trailer’s release, fans have taken to the YouTube comments section to share their reactions. One fan wrote: « Why did this movie miss Valentine’s Day? I would have watched it with a kilo of chips to drown my sadness. »
Another fan commented: « Pedro Pascal and a ROMCOM? ! ? I fear this will not be good for my obsession with him. »
One keen film enthusiast remarked: « I’m really only going in on this for Celine Song. Very interesting choice for a sophomore directing effort. »
Another movie buff shared their unique theory, commenting: « I’m convinced that they film multiple movies at the same set so Pedro can act in each one during breaks.
« I’m happy for his success, he deserves it. He’s in so many productions it’s unreal! »
The conversation continued as a fifth person reflected on cinematic trends, saying: « These mid-range studio romantic comedies or dramas were the type of movies that dominated the market and the film industry until the mid-aughts. »
Materialists releases in US cinemas on June 13 and a UK release date is TBC.
