Almost a decade on from the last Pirates of the Caribbean film and Hollywood has finally made another swashbuckling adventure.
Only this time it’s an action thriller with all the bloody violence of a John Wick movie.
Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra Jonas stars as Bloody Mary, a retired pirate who has found peace in the Cayman Islands with her husband, son and sister-in-law during the mid-19th century.
That is before her old captain Conner (a very serious-looking Karl Urban with a dodgy Irish accent) invades the tranquil Caribbean shore seeking revenge and a chest of buried treasure.
Produced by Avengers Endgame’s The Russo Brothers, this straight-to-streaming B-movie-esque flick may be rough around the edges, but is thoroughly entertaining.
Priyanka pulls no punches in her thrilling and brutal action sequences, full of sword slashing and musket firing. Taking a leaf out of James Bond’s book in the third act of Skyfall, Bloody Mary and her family hunker down in Cayman Brac’s Skull Cave with its bluff shelters and prepare for the oncoming attack. There, they boobytrap the crevices, ready to blow up the invading hoard of buccaneers bent on capturing the former female pirate dead or alive.
Among the John Wick-style “ooos” and “aahs” are the creative fight sequences with no holds barred – there’s a giant alligator that’s very hungry and one man is blown in two by a cannon. Yes, it’s all a bit trashy, but in the best and most explosive way possible.
The Bluff is streaming on Prime Video from Wednesday February 25, 2026.
