Popular beauty product recalled due to ‘serious chemical risk’

A popular beauty product has been urgently recalled as it presents a ‘serious chemical risk’. According to the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), the item was being sold on TikTok Shop.

People who have bought the Acrylic Nail Art Kit with UV LED Lamp & Gel Polish Set are being urged not to use it. The item presents a ‘serious chemical risk’ as it contains a compound which is possibly carcinogenic to humans. If you’ve bought this item, here’s what you should do in order to keep safe.

The product has been described as a DIY nail art kit consisting of 12 containers of glitter acrylic powder, a bottle of EMA liquid, an electrical drying lamp, a hand rest, and various accessories.

It’s not known where the item originated from, but it does not meet The Cosmetics Regulation, but the OPSS noted its ‘serious’ chemical risk to humans.

The compound it contains is banned for use in cosmetic products because of its potentially carcinogenic nature.

The listing has now been removed from TikTok Shop. If you’ve bought this acrylic nail set, stop using it immediately, and contact the distributor you bought it from for more information.

The risk statement reads: “The product presents a serious chemical risk as it contains 4- Vinylcyclohexene. 4-Vinylcyclohexene is prohibited in cosmetic products as it is possibly carcinogenic to humans. The product does not meet the requirements of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009 (‘The Cosmetics Regulation’).

“The product has been recalled from end users by TikTok. Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately. Contact the distributor you purchased from to request redress.

“The listing has been removed by the online marketplace.”
