Selecting the perfect baby name for your little one is among the most thrilling aspects of pregnancy. Yet it’s crucial to bear in mind that today’s trendy and contemporary choice could quickly become outdated and embarrassing within just a few years.

Chris Smith, baby naming specialist at Formuland, has been monitoring naming trends and predicts that 2026 will witness a boom in escapist, media-influenced monikers. Literary and television-inspired names are gaining traction, but despite their enchanting appeal, not every fashionable name stands the test of time. He explained: « When a name becomes too trendy, it loses the very quality that attracted parents in the first place. What starts as a unique choice quickly becomes ubiquitous. In five years, these names won’t feel special anymore, they’ll just feel very 2026. »

Variations include Jayden and Jadon. Previously hugely fashionable, the « -aden » suffix has been a playground staple for the past 20 years but is now losing its appeal.

Chris explained: “These names were everywhere in the 2000s and 2010s. While they’re still being used, they’re starting to feel quite dated.

« The name could feel very tied to a specific era as they grow older. »

Drawing inspiration from the Narnia books, this bold name’s unconventional spelling is a major red flag, according to Chris.

He warned: « Your child will spend years saying ‘Azlan with a Z’ every time they introduce themselves.

« It’s a burden that might seem small now, but it adds up over a lifetime of form-filling, coffee orders, and email introductions. »
