A gripping crime thriller boasting an ‘amazing’ leading lady and glowing audience reviews airs on Film4 this evening.
The G, which arrived in cinemas in 2023, centres on Ann, known as « The G ».
This formidable grandmother finds herself and her husband ensnared by a crooked legal guardian who seizes their wealth and confines them to a dismal care home.
Trapped and seething with rage, Ann teams up with her granddaughter Emma to unleash fierce retribution against those exploiting vulnerable pensioners.
Drawing from genuine conservatorship controversies, the narrative charts Ann’s evolution from helpless victim to ruthless vigilante, employing violence to secure justice for herself and fellow captives within the broken system.

Director Karl R. Hearne admitted Ann’s character was modelled on his own grandmother, a resilient woman who rejected the notion her life had reached its conclusion, reports the Mirror.
The production also boasts an acclaimed ensemble, featuring Dale Dickey, Romane Denis, Daniel Brochu and Richard Chevolleau alongside Roc Lafortune and Bruce Ramsay.
Since its debut two years back, the picture has garnered favourable notices, with reviewers universally applauding Dale Dickey’s commanding turn as a « gamechanging gangster granny ».
Film ratings platform Rotten Tomatoes awards it a flawless 100 percent score, with one viewer saying: « I just watched The G. Dale Dickey was amazing in this I love her.. I just wanted to come here and give it 5 stars. I’ll be back to expand my review. »

One viewer added: « Frightening in ways you don’t expect, it had us doing research to find out if what they go over in the movie was really true. Even beyond that, a solid performance by Dale Dickey as the G you really don’t want to mess with.
« Wow, this surprised me big time and I really enjoyed it. Almost a masterpiece and it’s definitely worth watching. Tension and mystery with fantastic performances, » enthused another.
A third wrote: « This was a cool movie and an unexpected treat. The pace is kind of slow, but in a good way. I wanted a little bit more edgy violence and grunge to feel the revenge, but it was just enough for me to enjoy. »
Another review lauded the film, saying: « Amazing! Dale Dickey was incredible! I would give it five stars if there was more revenge throughout the movie. A little bit lackluster in that department. »
One viewer added: « Not sure what the ending means when she says they’re going to Buffalo, does that mean there’s a sequel? Are they going after somebody? ».
« Very cool to see an older woman take charge… in more ways than one. Great performances, well made film… plot meanders a bit but overall worth the watch, » praised another.
The G will air on Friday 23 January at 9pm on Film4.
