Saturday night is the prime time for movie watching. Whether the TV guide is offering up a treat for your personal viewing or a new film that you have been wanting to see has just dropped on to streaming services, there isn’t a better time of the week to settle on the couch with a movie at the ready. Here is a list of three cosy films that you could devote your Saturday evening too, and there might be a throwback added in there for good measure.

As we approach the festive season, some of you will no doubt be toying with when it is acceptable to begin the Christmas movie marathons. Well, permission granted as BBC Three is airing The Holiday on Saturday night at 21:05pm. It is known to divide people, but The Holiday is a feel-good movie that will leave you feeling sentimental and fulfilled. It follows two women, one from America and one from Britain, who are not in the happiest of places following love life carnage. The two decide to swap homes at Christmastime in the hope of a break and a breath of fresh air. But the two get more than they bargained for when they begin new romances with the local men. Starring Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law and Jack Black, the film was released in 2006 and it has become a classic Christmas movie.

If you are on the hunt for something new to watch this weekend, a newly released movie directed by Luca Guadagnino has landed on streaming services. A psychological thriller, it will allow you to create that blockbuster feel in your living room and likely keep you hooked. Its stellar cast of Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri will be sure not to let you down. The film follows a college professor (Roberts) as she finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a star student (Edebiri) submits an accusation against one of her colleagues (Garfield), and a dark secret from her own past threatens to come into the light.

After the Hunt is now available to stream on Amazon Prime

And if you are in the mood for something nostalgic and fancy a throwback this Saturday, Titanic is always a good option. It has it all, from history to romance and tragedy, an ideal cinematic trio. As well as beautiful performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Its length of 3 hours and 14 minutes will need your whole Saturday night devoted to it to get through, with snacks and refreshments at the ready. The story of the two star-crossed lovers who meet and fall in love on the ill-fated maiden voyage of the unsinkable R.M.S. Titanic will never tire, and if you haven’t watched it before, then it is simply a must.
