Lidl has announced a £250million investment to slash prices of everyday items in a bid to help more shoppers in the run-up to Christmas. Lidl said it has cut prices on more than 1,000 products since January, with more reductions expected to be rolled out.
The move forms part of the bargain supermarket giant’s commitment to provide customers with « great quality at the lowest possible prices ». Richard Bourns, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB, said:“We’re committed to providing our customers with the best value every single day, and our teams work tirelessly throughout the year to deliver this for them. We also firmly believe that everyone should have access to healthy, affordable food, which is why we ensure that we’re offering the lowest prices in the market, and it’s why we’re on a mission to bring new Lidl stores to more communities across the country.”
This investment is set to complement Lidl Plus, the discounter’s loyalty rewards scheme. The app offers shoppers the chance to bag bargains on some of their favourite products, with new coupons landing each week.
Customers can be rewarded for their spending at Lidl – from a free in-store bakery sweet treat when spending £10 in a month, to 10% off their next shop when they reach £250.
Additionally, the discounter’s ‘Pick of the Week’ gives customers weekly in-store offers on fruit, veg, meat and poultry.
It comes as Lidl recently announced new store opening hours over the festive season to help shoppers plan their trips in advance.
It confirmed that all stores in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales) will be closed on Christmas Day. Meanwhile, most stores outside the M25 and Wales will be shut for Boxing Day, and all stores outside the M25 will be closed on New Year’s Day.
Customers are also encouraged to check their local store’s opening hours on the online store finder or through the Lidl Plus app.
