Royal Mail, the UK’s universal postal service provider, typically delivers parcels and letters six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. However, there are instances when delivery may not be possible due to inaccessible or unsafe addresses, inability to gain entry, or improper packaging of items.
Households expecting deliveries in time for the weekend may have to wait until Saturday, following a disruption to Royal Mail’s road network. Its road and mail centre networks were reported to be running behind schedule on Friday, September 26. The postal service has warned of potential delivery delays across the country today, with households in Yorkshire, down to Oxford, impacted. Is your postcode on the list?
In its latest service update, Royal Mail reported that a vehicle carrying mail from the Princess Royal Parcel Hub to Greenford Mail Centre departed later than planned due to congestion on the M1.
As a result, some mail from across other parts of the UK, due for delivery in the following postcodes, may arrive later than planned:
In the past 24 hours, a couple of mail centres, where mail is processed and dispatched for delivery, also operated behind schedule.
Items posted in four Bristol postcode areas and four in the South Midlands may take longer to reach their final delivery address elsewhere in the UK.

Mail posted in the BA, BS, GL, and TA postcode areas due for delivery across the rest of the UK may be delayed.

Some mail posted in parts of the CV, LE, MK and NN postcode areas, due for delivery across other parts of the UK, may arrive later than planned.
Local delivery offices are often impacted by local issues such as high levels of sick absence, resourcing, or other local factors. Royal Mail notes that in those cases, deliveries are rotated to minimise the delay to individual customers.
Delivery offices facing disruption today include Batley, Bicester, Mill Hill, Oxford East and Whitehaven. As a result, more than a dozen postcodes may have to wait longer to receive parcels.
These are:
- Batley DO (WF5, WF15, WF16 and WF17)
- Bicester DO (OX25, OX26, and OX27)
- Mill Hill DO (NW7)
- Oxford East DO (OX3, OX4, OX33, OX44, OX49)
- Whitehaven DO (CA18, CA19, CA20, CA26 and CA28)
