If you’re caught in a never-ending loop of scrolling through streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime, look no further. A film and TV reviewer has shared a « hidden gem » you might not have heard of, but it’s « too good » to be kept a secret any longer.

According to Luke Eccleston, of Eccy Reviews on social media, you’re « missing out » if you haven’t watched it. The TV series, which he says is « way too good to be kept a secret » and « one of the biggest hidden gems » he’s ever come across, is We Own This City.

In a clip posted to TikTok, he added: « I’ve never seen anybody talk about it, I’ve never even heard about it and that’s exactly why you need to go and check it out, it’s genuinely brilliant ».

Luke explained it’s a « six part limited series based on a crime drama true story ». You can watch it on Sky TV in the UK, or HBO in the US.

Explaining the plot, Luke said: « This tells the true story of Baltimore’s Gun Trace Task Force and how corrupt it was, from planting evidence to robbing innocent people on the streets. »

According to Luke, it also features « one of the biggest downfalls ever » and he praised the performances from all the actors, who he said are « genuinely brilliant ». He continued: « I was completely hooked from start to finish. It’s one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long time. »

It stars Jon Bernthal as Sergeant Wayne Jenkins, Josh Charles as Officer Daniel Hersl, and Jamie Hector as Detective Sean M Suiter.

The series, based on the book We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption, by Baltimore Sun reporter Justin Fenton, has a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes, where people noted that if you liked The Wire, you’ll love this. David Simon, the producer and creator of The Wire, co-created this series.

« Another eye-opening and dismal masterpiece from the work of David Simon. A must-see for those that enjoyed The Wire or Crime pieces, » said one person.

« One of the best slow burn shows out there, » said another reviewer. « Watching Jon Bernthal raise the bar in this series is a pleasure. To sum it up, some actual events made us perceive them as real, thanks to the entire crew, » added another.

Over on Eccy Reviews’ TikTok post, one person said: « We Own This City is amazing. » Another added: « Brilliant Tv series , well worth the watch. » And a third commented: « Sooo good. Watched the whole series in a day. »
