Lloyds Bank has clarified the rules around a limit that applies to customers. A person contacted the bank to ask about how they could view and change their withdrawal limit.

They shared a screengrab of some messages from Lloyds, where they had been denied a request for £225 as « you reached the limit for today ».

The standard daily withdrawal limit for Lloyds Bank debit card holders is £800 a day at a cash machine. You can withdraw any amount over the counter in branch.

Responding to the customer, the bank said: « If you’re looking to view or change your withdrawal limit, the best way to do this is by messaging us through the Lloyds Bank app. Just log in and send us a message – one of our colleagues will be happy to help you with this. »

The customer replied to say they did not know they even had a daily limit and that they had assumed it would be something in the region of £1,000. Lloyds responded: « It’s easy to assume there’s no limit until it shows up.

« Most accounts do have a daily withdrawal limit, but it can vary. If you’d like to check or make changes, just message us through the Lloyds Bank app – one of our colleagues will be happy to help. »

Barclays also recently spoke out to explain its rules. A customer asked the bank about its plans to close some of its foreign currency accounts.

In response, the bank said: « As of May 12 this year, we only offer euro and US dollar accounts to personal and premier customers. From October 9, 2025, foreign currency cash deposits and withdrawals will no longer be available with this account.

« To make payments from a foreign currency account, you’d need to transfer funds to a Barclays sterling current account or a Barclays currency account in the same name and can do this online, over the phone or in branch. » Those with a currency accout will see their terms and conditions updated from October 9.
