Haircare needs can change throughout our lives, and the lead-up to menopause is no exception. Shoppers have found a haircare set on Amazon which they have praised for making their hair ‘look thicker’.
The Pantene Menopause Shampoo and Conditioner Set is £17.98 on Amazon, down from the original price of £36. This set contains a shampoo and conditioner, which the brand says are designed for menopause, as well as a leave-in, thickening hair spray and treatment. Using the shampoo and conditioner together, it is a ‘complete haircare routine for menopause.’
Menopause usually happens to women between the ages of 45 and 55, when hormone levels reduce and periods stop. Symptoms can include mood swings, anxiety, brain fog, hot flushes and trouble sleeping, among others.
According to Pantene, the 250ml Revitalise & Soothe Menopause Shampoo cleanses and moisturises dry and damaged hair, while also soothing the scalp. Their formula is infused with Pro-V, Vitamin B3 and White Tea, which they say « helps to densify » thinning hair.
The Revitalise & Soothe Menopause Conditioner For Thinning Hair, which is 160ml, is said to be suitable for thinning and dry hair, and as it is free from colourants and mineral oil, is gentle on scalps. It also has Pro-V, Vitamin B3 and White Tea, and the brand says it is a « conditioner designed for menopause. »
Also available is the Menopause Hair Serum, which is a leave-in thickening hair spray and scalp treatment. It is described as being treatment for thinning hair and a dry sensitive scalp, and the online description also claims it « creates the look of 6 500 more hair fibres. » It is sprayed on to roots and the scalp, and it can be used on wet or dry hair, and is quick drying.
Other brands have also formulated their own products, with the Charles Worthington MenoPlex Volumising Shampoo 250ml offered at £9.99 from Boots. They claim to have developed and tested the product « on perimenopausal and menopausal women for real results ». They say it has been formulated with a special thickening polymer and is also vegan friendly.
Another option to look at is the John Frieda Volume Profiller + Thickening Shampoo from Superdrug for £8.99. Both of these formulas are said to thicken locks with biotin and hyaluronic acid, giving them a ‘plumping boost.’
Amazon shoppers have been raving about the set in reviews, with one person saying: « Love these products. Makes my hair look thicker. » Another shopper said: « Lovely on your hair and feels super soft. » A third person left a succinct summary writing: « Love this. »
Someone who bought the shampoo only said: « I’ve only tried this once so far and I have been pleased with the results. I only used it on the top and front of my head where the hair it thinner. I also used some volumizer foam before blow drying. There is a slight difference in the look of my hair. It looks more healthy and I do think it looks slightly thicker on the top. I will keep using it and if things change I will write an update but so far so good. »
A less pleased shopper said of the set: « Did add body to fine hair but didn’t like the tacky feel after washing. Also difficult to brush through, sort of defeated the object of protecting fragile hair. »
