‘I’m cabin crew and there’s 5 things I’d never do as plane passenger’

A cabin crew member has shared five things she would “never” do if she were to board a plane as a passenger – and some are rather surprising.

Planes are notoriously tight quarters, with travellers often experiencing limited personal space, uncomfortable seats, and the potential for their fellow riders to be disruptive or disrespectful.

Flight staff know air travel like the backs of their hand and get to see behind the scenes on how a plane fully operates.

This can then impact the way they may travel when they’re off the clock.

Flight attendant Kaylyn Carrie has caused a stir with her widely-viewed video on TikTok. In it, she describes: “Five things I would not do if I was flying as a regular passenger.” You can check out her views below.

Remove her shoes

Many people take their shoes off on a flight but this is something the cabin crew member would avoid – more specifically, walking around barefoot.

She stressed: “Never, never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever would I take my shoes off and walk up and down the aisle. Never. Never in a million years.

In the comments section beneath her video, people shared their thoughts. One person said: “Ppl walk around barefoot” and added a shocked face emoji.

Another deduced: “So the planes aren’t being thoroughly cleaned? Got it!!!!”

Wear short clothing

Kaylyn then said she would always wear clothing that covers her whole body. She’d avoid wearing shorts or a short-sleeved shirt leaving her arms exposed.

Typically, when travelling as a passenger, the cabin crew member opts for “a long sleeve with pants.”

She began: “I don’t want my bare skin…” before pausing and adding: “You see what I’m saying?”

Fellow TikTok users agreed. One said: “I don’t care what the weather is, hoody and sweat pants are airport/plane mandatory”.

Another said: “And we’re washing those clothes IMMEDIATELY when we get home”.

Use the toilet

Surprisingly, the cabin crew pro would avoid using an onboard toilet unless absolutely necessary.

She said: “The lavatory bathroom should be like the last resort. You should use the bathrooms in the airport before you use the bathrooms on the aeroplane.

“First of all, the bathrooms on an aeroplane are small,” and continued: “It’s not a lot of moving around room.”

Kaylyn added: “Just use the bathroom in the airport prior to getting on the plane – the lavatory should be last, last, last resort.”

Of course, this isn’t always possible – especially on a long-haul flight. One person commented: “8-12 hour flights…gotta use the restroom at some point”.

Overhead compartment woes

This was a controversial tip, with Kaylyn confessing when she’s a passenger, she tends to use the first available overhead compartment she comes across to store her luggage.

She explained: “If I’m group eight or nine and I see an open space in any overhead bin, I’m going to go ahead and put my bag in there because why would I wait till I get to row 33 and now there’s no space?”

Many people in the comments section disagreed with this tactic. One person said: “No. You use the bag space above your seat. If everyone did this, everyone would have space.”

Someone else agreed: “Why don’t people select the overhead space above their own damn seat!!!”

But someone else commented: “She said if you are group 8 or 9 – they are the last to board so any space left as you are walking by, you need to take”.

Use the tray table to rest

Many people on planes often get tired and crave a little rest. It can be difficult for some to sleep while remaining upright in an airline seat so some people pop their tray table down and rest their heads on them.

Kaylyn said this is something she will never do on a plane. Concluding her tips, she added: “Last but not least: I’m never laying my head down on the tray table. I’m just not. I don’t want my face to touch that.”

In the comments section, one person shared: “People be looking at me crazy when I pull out the Clorox wipes and disinfect the seat and every area I’d touch lol.”
