The Princess of Wales looked sophisticated on Tuesday when she stepped out in London to launch a new project linked to her early years work at the National Portrait Gallery, but there was hidden detail to her « understated » outfit, which was quite significant, according to a style expert.

Princess Kate visited the National Portrait Gallery (NPG) to launch an interactive trail aimed at helping children under five develop their social and emotional skills.

Kate, who has been patron of the NPG since 2011, joined a group of four and five-year-old schoolchildren from All Souls CE Primary School on a school bus from Fitzrovia to Trafalgar Square to participate in The Bobeam Tree Trail for the first time.

She looked chic in a brown blazer, which she paired with a dark turtleneck top and dark pinstripes wide-leg trousers. For jewellery, she opted for a pair of gold hoops and a gold bangle, and her hair was styled in her signature loose wave hairstyle.

Despite Kensington Palace no longer releasing details of her outfits, eagle-eyed royal fans were able to ID the royal’s pieces with ease.

Kate wore a wool blend blazer by Petar Petrov, a Ukrainian-born designer who founded his eponymous label in Vienna in 2009, Max Mara’s Rea pinstripe straight-leg trousers and her black Russell and Bromley heels.

Her earrings were old Sézane, while she also wore her Halcyon Days bracelet, her wedding band and her eternity ring instead of her engagement ring.

Now Susan E Kelley, founder of the long-running What Kate Wore website, said that while the princess chose a new designer for Tuesday’s look, it is a significant choice due to his links to another brand favoured by the royals.

She told Hello!: « While Tuesday’s look was understated, it featured new pieces not seen at previous engagements.

« The colours may have been muted, but the look was crisp and professional, showcasing the Princess’s signature look.

« Petar Petrov is a good brand for the Princess with its clean lines and attention to quality. It is also favoured by celebrities like Cate Blanchett and Emily Blunt.

« The Princess would be well-acquainted with his design aesthetic as he is also the head designer for Eponine London. »
