Christmas doesn’t come cheap – we all know it.
Yet, despite the rising costs, we can’t resist splashing the cash for that festive sparkle.
New figures from London Mutual Credit Union reveal Brits are forking out between £660 and £1,150 on Christmas each year, with decorations, food, and presents being the big-ticket items.
But instead of buying fresh decorations year after year, why not save some money by giving your old ones a new lease of life – including your Christmas tree?
While artificial Christmas trees can look stunning, putting them up can be a hassle. With each piece to assemble and branches to arrange, it’s a time-consuming task, especially when you’re aiming for that fuller, more luxurious look.
A savvy woman revealed the ultimate Christmas tree hack to make your sparse branches look fuller – and it will only set you back £1.
Home styling expert Kirsty from House of Haz revealed her clever trick for transforming your artificial tree into a bushier, more luxurious display, simply by adding a garland.
Speaking in a TikTok video, she explained: « Green tinsel is my must-have Christmas hack of the year. Wrap it around your tension poles, bannisters, and weave it through your tree to fill in those gaps. »
In the video, Kirsty showed off her artificial tree, which, despite being fluffed up to perfection, still had noticeable gaps between the branches.
However this was no match for Kirsty, who showed how she took a two metre long tinsel in the same colour as her tree, which she had bought for £1 at B&Q.
The styling expert wrapped the tinsel around the tree, threading it between each branch, and what followed was a dramatic transformation. The once sparse tree now boasted the perfect Christmas shape, looking fuller and more festive.
Once Kirsty added the finishing touches with decorations, it was impossible to tell that just moments before, the tree had been looking rather sad and lifeless.
