A lot of families will already have their summer getaway sorted.

But if you plan things at the last minute or fancy a spontaneous family holiday, then you might want to listen up.

Many people take to social media to ask for tips on cheap family holidays. However, there’s now no need to search because Katie Ellis, Senior Product Strategy Manager at loveholidays, has shared her insider tips on bagging the best deal.

The travel expert unveils the most cost-effective board basis, destinations and weeks to travel during the forthcoming summer school holidays to book your escape, as well as other handy hacks to help you secure your ideal family break.

Take a look at them below so you can snag the best deal for you and your family this summer.

Opt for an all-inclusive package

All-inclusive holidays are a favourite among families, with over half (54%) of families booking a holiday with loveholidays in the past six months choosing an all-inclusive board basis.

Choosing an all-inclusive package eliminates the worry of unexpected costs on your holiday, giving you peace of mind and allowing you to truly unwind and create unforgettable memories.

When it comes to destination choices, loveholidays has analysed the locations offering the best value all-inclusive packages for families. Morocco takes the top spot as the most affordable all-inclusive destination this summer, with a seven-night flight and hotel package averaging at £81 per person per night.

Tunisia is a close second with an average cost of £88 per person per night, followed by mainland Spain and the Canary Islands at £99 per person per night on average, and Bulgaria at £100 per person per night on average.

Be flexible about where you go

Being open to different destinations can help you save money when booking a family holiday, with the added bonus of exploring new places. Using online search and comparison tools can be a great way to choose your holiday destination based on your budget.

This year, Tunisia has seen a surge in popularity among families due to its affordability and easy access from the UK, with loveholidays reporting a 65% increase in family bookings for summer 2025.

Tunisia offers a short flight time from UK airports, making travel with children less stressful. Upon arrival, holidaymakers will find numerous family-friendly resorts, warm weather, soft sandy beaches and a range of child-friendly activities.

Meanwhile, Black Sea resorts Sunny Beach and Golden Sands in Bulgaria offer soft sandy beaches, gentle shallow waters and plenty of affordable all-inclusive options. Many resorts feature kids’ clubs, water parks and family-friendly entertainment, allowing parents to relax knowing there’s plenty to keep the children entertained.

Flexibility with dates

Being open with dates can also help you secure a better deal.

While families are often restricted to travelling during peak periods, being flexible with your travel dates within these times can help stretch your budget further.

For families without school-aged children, data from loveholidays reveals that the week beginning 23rd June is currently the most affordable time for a short-haul beach holiday this summer, averaging at £88 per person per night based on a seven-night stay.

For those travelling during the school holidays, departures in the week starting 11th August are the cheapest, averaging at £105pp per night for a seven-night, short-haul beach holiday.

Don’t be afraid of last-minute deals

If you’re concerned that booking last minute will result in a hefty price tag, this isn’t always the case. Travel companies continue to offer plenty of discounted deals for those looking to jet off soon after booking.

The reason lies in how the travel industry manages supply and demand. Holiday companies often offer discounted rates closer to departure if they haven’t been able to fill seats or hotel rooms in order to fill unsold spaces.

Many travel companies work with our hotel suppliers to agree discounted rates on any last-minute availability, helping you to get the lowest prices possible.
