With the end of the year approaching, large supermarkets are changing the rules for their customers – for the better. Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons and Lidl have all made major changes to their loyalty card systems. Last week, Sainsbury’s announced that its Nectar Card programme is now available on Deliveroo, making it the first delivery platform to roll out the popular loyalty scheme used by about 24 million people.
Now, while placing an order through participating Sainsbury’s shops, customers will be able to insert the card number registered to their Nectar account at checkout and collect points, The Grocer reported. One Nectar point will be earned for every £1 spent on the supermarket’s eligible items purchased via Deliveroo.
Tesco shoppers can take advantage of new benefits this December with the retailer’s revamped Clubcard scheme. The supermarket has introduced a « win-win » boost, giving members double points on gift card purchases. Under the offer, customers earn two points for every £1 spent on gift cards. These extra points can provide greater value when redeemed through Tesco’s Clubcard Reward Partners, offering up to 4% back on your spending.
Ban Mahsoub, partnerships director at Tesco Insurance and Money Services, said: « We all know the challenge of finding the perfect Christmas gift. With two points for every £1 spent on gift cards, you can be confident you’re giving something they’ll love, and you’ll get a little something back for yourself, too. It’s a win-win. »
Meanwhile, Asda has introduced a surprise treat via its loyalty system, the Asda Rewards app. Under the Christmas Saver Cashpot section of the scheme, Asda has quietly credited some accounts with a festive £5 bonus. Additionally, customers topping up their card with at least £30 ahead of December could receive a bonus worth up to £15.
The Christmas Saver Cashpot lets shoppers move Asda Pounds – earned through regular purchases, in-app « missions », or by buying designated « Star Products » – into a dedicated pot for Christmas spending. Funds in the Cashpot are eligible for the seasonal bonus and can be converted into vouchers to use in-store or online. Alternatively, customers can choose to use a physical Asda Christmas Savings Card.
Similarly, in November, Morrisons introduced a £50 rule ahead of Christmas for Morrisons More Card customers. They can now earn £20 worth of More Points to redeem in-store or online when they shop at Morrisons in the lead up to Christmas. However, to be eligible, shoppers must have spent a minimum of £50 on four out of five weeks before Sunday 14 December. Once customers reach 5,000 points, they can choose either to keep saving their Points or convert them into Morrisons ‘Fivers’ to redeem in store or online.
Whether customers make one large shop or several smaller ones, spending a total of £50 or more in a week qualifies them for Morrisons’ festive « Merry More Points » offer. The scheme is available to all More Card members, whether they use a physical card or the Morrisons More App, giving millions of shoppers the chance to earn £20 worth of More Points to spend over Christmas. To claim the reward, digital card holders simply need to activate Merry More Points in the app or scan the activation coupon on their receipt to ensure their purchases count toward the scheme.
Lidl is also rewarding its loyal customers. From Monday 1 December to Wednesday 24 December, Lidl Plus customers can unlock a daily festive reward by opening the Lidl Plus app each day. Customers can save and activate their daily coupon in the app before their next shop to enjoy a range of treats, from free products to £5 vouchers. However, it is required to act fast as each surprise is only available for one day.
Additionally, on selected days throughout December, customers can enter prize draws for the chance to win rewards, including a year’s worth of shopping.
On prize draw days, they can open their app to receive an entry invite, activate the prize draw coupon in the app, and complete a shop within the specified time to secure a chance to win.
