Netflix fans have shared their thoughts on what they believe to be the “best” comedy shows available to stream on the platform, with the episodes made up of “all hits” and “no misses”. Comedy is subjective and what one person finds funny, another may not but there are some films and television shows that are widely lauded by countless viewers.

Some shows stand the test of time and appeal to universal audiences and one Netflix user was keen to find out which were perceived as the best of the best. Taking to Reddit, they simply asked: “Which is the best long comedy show on Netflix for nonstop laughter?”

But they had stipulations and didn’t want to tune into a show that was a small burner or had a few dud episodes.

They explained: “I’m looking for a long comedy series on Netflix that I can watch while eating or during small breaks. The goal is simple: laugh as hard as humanly possible.

“Please suggest shows that are all hits, no misses — the kind that will genuinely make me burst out laughing. No slow burners, no ‘it gets better after a few episodes’ types. Just pure comedy gold from the start.”

People were keen to share their recommendations, with three television shows in particular topping the list of recommendations.

Arrested Development

This hit satirical sitcom centres on the dysfunctional Bluth family, who lose their wealth yet continue to live a lifestyle beyond their means.

Their privilege and selfishness adds to the comedy while Jason Bateman’s “straight man” Michael tries his best to keep them all in check.

The show originally ran for three seasons from 2003 until 2006 before being cancelled due to low ratings, despite its critical acclaim and popularity. The show returned for a fourth season in 2013 and a fifth season in 2018 and 2019.

One Reddit user said: “You can pretty much start on any episode, or even work your way through backwards, and still find a belly laugh in each episode.

“It’s those moments when you’re truly paying attention, though, when you discover just how funny and serial it is. Also, Ron Howard’s narration is mesmerising.”

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Many other Reddit users recommended Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Created by the writers and producers who delivered hits including The Office US, Parks and Recreation and more, the series centres on a cast of New York Police Department detectives under their stern new captain, Raymond Holt.

The series ran for eight seasons from 2013 until 2021. It was fronted by Andy Samberg with an ensemble cast made up of Terry Crews, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, Melissa Fumero and more.

It’s been critically acclaimed and went on to bag coveted awards including Gold Globes, Emmys and more.

In the comments section, one Reddit user simply said: “NINE NINE!!! (I love you)” while another concurred: “Was looking for this! Nine-Nine!!”

Schitt’s Creek

Another show that was widely praised on the hit social media platform was Schitt’s Creek.

The Canadian sitcom was created by Dan Levy and his father Eugene Levy which ran from 2015 to 2020 and made up of 80 episodes across six seasons.

It follows the wealthy Rose family after they lose their fortune and have to relocate to Schitt’s Creek, a remote town in Canada which is their sole remaining asset – bought as a joke, which adds further insult to injury.

Their lavish former lifestyle is at odds with their new social standing, adding to the comedy.

The series won multiple awards, most notably for its final season which scooped all seven major comedy awards at the the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards – the first time a comedy series achieved such a feat.

When one Reddit fan recommended it to the original poster, another simply said: “This is the way”.
