You may have managed to go all this time without ever making any kind of social media account. However, Facebook could potentially still have your information even if you’ve never set up an account. Find out why this is possible and how you can protect your information.  How could Facebook have access to my private information?  Whether you deleted your Facebook account years ago or you never made an account at all, it’s possible that Facebook could still have your email address cell phone number or landline number. Twitter head of trust and safety Ella Irwin has resigned

Twitter head of trust and safety Ella Irwin has resigned, she confirmed to Reuters, marking the departure of one of Elon Musk’s most important executives at Twitter. Irwin took over from Yoel Roth in November after Roth’s resignation earlier that month. Fortune’s Kylie Robison reported earlier on Thursday that Irwin’s Slack account appeared to be deactivated. In her months-long tenure, Irwin oversaw some turbulent cycles at Twitter, including periods where Twitter has come under scrutiny for not doing enough to curb child exploitation. Irwin herself shared internal Twitter information with Bari Weiss as part of the “Twitter Files” reports and reportedly directed banning Twitter accounts that shared information about Musk’s private jet. AI boosters need to learn how to edit

I feel a little insane typing this because it is so incredibly obvious, but I guess it needs to be said: part of creativity is knowing when to stop. Over and over, from AI art proponents, I’ve heard that we can simply extend a beloved piece of art — whether that’s the Mona Lisa or the cover of Abbey Road — to infinity. And in some ways, I’m sympathetic! One of the first ways we locate our creativity is by extending a work we loved; I wrote my very first short story in the universe of Ursula K. Le Guin’s Catwings around the age of six. It is possibly still kicking around in my dad’s attic somewhere. For those of you who are thinking creatively for the first time, I’d like to introduce you to the idea of the edit Derivative work is valuable and a longstanding tradition. Shakespe...

Epic now rewards Fortnite creators for how long people play their experiences

Fortnite developer Epic Games is adding a new “time played” metric to the calculations that determine how much creators are paid for the Fortnite experiences (called “islands”) that they make. Time played will be measured alongside the player popularity and player retention metrics Epic introduced when it rolled out its updated creator payouts system in March. This is the first major adjustment to the updated payouts system that Epic introduced alongside its Unreal Editor for Fortnite. Those tools offer a lot of new ways to make games and virtual worlds, and the new payouts system gives 40 percent of the game’s net revenues back to creators (though Epic is competing for that money as well). Epic’s hope is that the tools and the revised payouts structure could entice more creators to...

Polestar’s latest software update adds YouTube, upgraded Apple CarPlay

Polestar’s latest software update includes YouTube so Polestar 2 owners can watch streaming video while charging their vehicles and an updated version of Apple CarPlay that includes the ability to project Apple Maps onto the instrument cluster. The software update, P2.9, is Polestar’s 15th over-the-air (OTA) upgrade since 2020. Automakers are increasingly relying on OTA updates to add infotainment controls, including streaming video, games, and other creature comforts for the era of connected cars. YouTube is a big addition to the Polestar 2 experience, with the company offering Google’s video streaming service for the first time. Polestar is one of a handful of automakers that use Android Automotive, Google’s native operating system for vehicles. On the flip side, CarPlay will...

Ted Lasso season 3 review: big and unwieldy but stuck the landing

In the opening episode of Ted Lasso’s third season, the perpetually cheerful coach (Jason Sudeikis) found himself stuck between two worlds: the desire to stay with his soccer club, AFC Richmond, in England and complete some unfinished business with a found family and his need to go back home to the US and be with a son who is missing him very badly. It provoked a full-on existential crisis — and as the season wore on, the show itself experienced something similar. With ballooning episode run times that were overstuffed with plotlines, the show found itself somewhere between the sitcom it started out as and the prestige drama it seemed to want to be. The result was a show that was unwieldy at times, losing sight of the things that made it such a phenomenon to begin with, while taking...

A developer says Reddit is charging him $20 million a year to keep his app working

Apollo, the popular Reddit app for iOS, could face millions of dollars in fees as a result of Reddit’s new paid API model. According to an update posted by developer Christian Selig, Reddit could charge Apollo roughly $20 million per year if it continues operating at its current scale. Reddit announced changes to its API policy in April, which allows the platform to put limits on the number of API requests made by a third-party client like Apollo. But now, we have more details on what exactly this means: Selig says Reddit plans on charging about $12,000 per 50 million requests. That means Apollo, which made 7 billion API requests last month, would be on the hook to pay $1.7 million per month or $20 million per year to continue operating at the same pace. Selig notes that even if he...

Apple’s newest iPad Mini drops to its all-time low price

Unlike the 10th-gen iPad, the iPad Mini is compatible with the second-gen Apple Pencil. It’s also lighter, with a smaller 8.3-inch screen that’s easier to hold with one hand, which makes it particularly ideal for reading. At the same time, it comes equipped with a faster A15 Bionic chip while sharing some of the same features, including a USB-C port. If you’d like to keep an eye on your porch while you’re away traveling this summer, the last-gen Google Nest Doorbell (Wired) is on sale for $74.99 ($154 off) at Woot. Despite the fact that the 2018 model isn’t as fast or as smart as Google’s newer doorbell, it’s still a good option, with features like person alerts and night video. The doorbell also features a 4:3 aspect ratio and 1600 x 1200-resolution sensor with HDR, so you’ll have ...
